So I've just seen this, personally I'm not a fan of paying for unknown items, these sorts of crates are usually worth the money that you put into them, but I'm not a fan. Though if I had any disposable income I would probably sign up for this one. What are your guy's thoughts on it? Are you going to sign up? DungeonCrate

I think it is pretty cool, but I will have to pass. I don't have $35 to throw around a momth. I do enjoy these box formats though. I currently am subscribing to one for indie video games called indiebox.

I love the idea, and though I echo what lasersniper said, it would be an amazing gift for Christmas/Birthdays, for anyone who is into RPGing. I certainly agree with not knowing for what your paying that is why it makes the perfect gift.

I'll come back with nudepics of loot when it arrives. Ugh, I hate fake TTRPGamers with their "Look at me with my (pre-made, pre-painted) miniatures", god they don't even have a favorite paint colour.

I am sorry but I would rather my minis not look like I dumped paint on them and tried to clean it up

But in all seriousness, I am not good at drawing at all so me attempting to paint on miniatures = the blue man group.

Lol, yeah, I've never tried painting (not for lack of wanting to), though I would not be surprised if it looked like a total mess if I did try. I'd just need lots (and lots and lots) or practice.

Hey, don't kid yourselves, painting miniatures is actually super easy. And your drawing skills mean absolutely nothing (I know, because I can't even draw a decent Stick Figure, but my paintings are fairly decent. Here is Game Workshops (Warhammer/Warhammer40k figures) book on painting miniatures here. It comes with a ton of videos as well, I learned directly from these videos (which were free on youtube at the time... not anymore), check it out!

I'm also a terrible artist (I can't even draw a tree), and I've been having a lot of fun painting. I'm not necessarily good at it, but they come out decent and it wasn't nearly as hard as I thought. There are so many methods you can learn that it doesn't really come down to artistic talent. It is, however, time consuming, but it's relaxing and enjoyable.
The Reaper beginner set comes with 3 minis and a step by step booklet as well that will show you the basic techniques. I found that plus videos like Almarian linked to be super helpful.

My art skills are of such quality that they alone qualify me to be an English Teacher. I haven't painted any minis in awhile but I've done my share over the years. It's a very different skill set. Based on my experience I would estimate that anyone's first and/or second mini will probably be a bit shoddy. After that you can look forward to a long line of reasonably decent paint jobs. And you can always hit the first few with some acetone or turpentine and paint them up again.
Acrylic paints are super easy to work with too. My biggest problem has been the paint chipping or rubbing off (more with metal than plastic minis). I've tried dousing them in varnish and some other finishes but that doesn't really seem to help much. It probably has more to do with my tendency to throw all our minis into one big jostly box than the materials I've been using.
So far as the OP... I'm pretty much in line with what everyone else has said. Cool idea, but we don't have enough disposable income for it to make sense.

I certainly agree with that, my first miniature wasn't too bad, but it wasn't great either. I believe a miniature of Gandalf was my first painting. It is especially fun when, after you learn the basics, adding special touches to the figurine such as blood (such on my Dwalin miniature) and environments (such as Snow for my Space Wolves. To be honest, I don't know what type of paint I use, it is the Citadel System (so not the cheapest), but it really makes painting a breeze and it takes a lot to chip the paint (unless you forget to prime a miniature).
