Many of my campaigns dance back and forth between urban-based investigation and rural/nature travel/adventure. To spice things up I created a weather system for each day. Obviously better weather allows the game to operate as normal, while worse weather makes things more difficult like tracking animals/enemies, setting watch during extended rests, extending travel time, etc. The really bad weather can even impact those urban environments and introduce new problems for the characters to solve. Or it can just add to the narrative. I've put the numbers below, but I'd love your feedback! I've only used it in about five sessions.
1= Insane storm typical in region/season (hurricane, tornado, tsunami, blizzard, etc.) 2-3= Heavy precipitation typical in region/season (heavy rain/snow/sleet/sand storm) 4-5= Dense fog 6-8= Normal precipitation typical in region/season (rain, snow, etc.) 9-12= Light precipitation typical in region/season (rain, snow, etc.) 13-16 =Overcast 17-20= Sunny and clear.

I have always struggled with trying to implement weather into my campaigns. It can add so much but damn is it easy to forget about in the midst of a campaign. I have taken to making a 7-day predicted forecast for my games to make it a little easier. That said though, this is a really nice rules lite way of doing weather. Though I did have a thought, what if the PCs wanted, no NEEDED it to rain. They are in the middle of a drought and are praying for rain. Rolling nat 20s in a row wouldn't seem that lucky then would it xD.

My weather system is pretty complex, but I've gone ahead and rolled weeks in advance to prevent a delay of game during the sessions. Lately a lot of their time is spent traveling, since they've moved to unexplored territory.
