What if Belle is killed by Gaston in the final battle scene of Beauty and the Beast? Belle was not able to profess her love for the Beast. The curse does not end. The Beast stays a monster but sinks in sadness and despair. He becomes angry.
"Nature leads the way." The dark winter forest expands to include the village. The villages is forgotten by the outside world like the castle and the Beast.
"Tale as old as time." The Beast channeled his pain into anger and destroyed the village.
The animated household items do not become inanimate but are twisted to become horrible clockwork/golems. They now have more aggressive tendencies.
The witch that cursed the Prince is still alive and is aghast at the turn that her spell has taken.
The follow up adventure would take place 50 years after Belles death, so the village would be overgrown and decayed.
I think the one-shot should offer a path for redemption as an option, But the party could also solve things by combat.
Scene 1. Destroyed village 50 yrs later. Meet witch. Beasts minions have been hunting. Short combat/exploration
Scene Two. Investigation. Find McGuffin
Scene 3. Explore castle. Interact with servants
Scene 4. Beast's bedroom with the jar containing the petalless rose. Combat and/or noncommittal resolution.
This what I have right now. What ideas do you have?

We discussed a very similar re-imagining to Beauty & the Beast a few posts down. Check it out and see if there's anything useful in there. Disney DangersI'm a fan of adventures that are in the coda to another story, I think you have a great start. Which characters are still alive? Is Gaston? Is Belle irretrievable dead? As the curse spreads, do more animals and townspeople become afflicted and become constructs or trees? What has the Prince/Beast been doing?

Maybe, it should take place 15 years later, instead of 50 years. Otherwise , many of the original character's will still be alive.
Characters I know for sure. *Belle is a ghost. Who has been unable reach Beast through the curse to calm him.
*LeFou is a perfect tragic character. He realizes that he enabled Gaston invasion of the Beasts home and the death of Belle. He runs Gaston's pub.
*The Enchantress who horrified that her curse is behaving I ways she did not expect. She sends adventurers to end the curse.
*Gaston is an undead creature under the Beast's control. He hunts the enchantress.
*Belle's father. He Is A Little Crazed Since Both Wife And DAUGHTER Passed Before him. Belle visits him but he just thinks it is his imagination. He sends adventurers to stop the Beast, so he and the Beast can be at rest.
I am also thinking that all rose bushes have died with Belle, except the bush that the rose originally came from.
I need sit down and watch the 1992 and 2017 versions again to remind myself of all the characters.
One things I am trying not to do with this adventure is solve the problem. I want to provide information and let the players make the solution.

*Belle is a ghost... *LeFou is a perfect tragic character... There are a lot of hints here that perhaps there is another, unseen presence behind the strife. A typical plot might be that a devil or demon has a corrupting influence on the ritual or curse, twisting it to more horrifying and macabre ends. The effects of demonic or sinister intent could explain how fouled and miserable the players have all become. Effects might not be noticeable at first, but after 20-50 years, the rot and twist of designs would become more apparent. I'm imagining small demons at large throughout the land; they wouldn't have cause to bother the inanimate / animated objects, the plants and furniture that the townsfolk have become-- they are already well cursed. They would however thwart any attempts from outside to resolve the situation. I generally prefer to have a clear antagonist in mind, even if the players never know. Partly, this is because players often expect a 'boss battle' to happen at the end of the session. Mostly though, I like to have a fall back villain. It's great fun to let the players try and tease out the solution to the riddle or come up with a novel key that will resolve happily for all. However, I am not personally comfortable assuming my players have the interest to pursue clues or threads I make up on the fly. Personally, I have a plot with some clear points and setting locations outlined to fall back on; if the players devise something more interesting than I came up with, great! Otherwise, if they don't, at least I have an idea for an antagonist and hopefully some rules/stats planned out. It actually seems like there is a presence or regional effect in place; it doesn't seem that anyone or anything dies in the area-- all the characters mentioned become undead or constructs or animate objects. If you wanted to make it a countdown adventure, try this; a neighboring kingdom has amassed an army to march on the cursed land and drive out the rot entirely. However, when such an army makes contact with the cursed forces of the beast, each soldier that is struck down becomes an object or undead, arises, and attacks their former brothers at arms. Just a thought, I hope this adventure comes together.

What if Beauty and the Beast?
This story deviates from happy ending of Beauty and the Beast. It follows the movie up until the villagers invade the castle. Gaston enraged that Belle loved the ‘hideous’ beast shot her off the tower before the curse could be ended. The Beast in turned killed Gaston as the last petal of the rose fell. Before the last petal hit the table, Savora the Alluring, a succubus, caught it and placed it on her heart corrupting the original curse. At that moment, most of the animated objects/servants became inanimate. Some were destroyed by the villagers, while others fled and hid. Most of the villagers died celebrating as the Beast tore through them. Those escaped found the darkness and cold that surrounded the castle had grown engulfing the village now. Fifteen years have passed since that night. The forest is infested with feral wolves, devils (imps), and zombies.

This adventure expects four level one players.

This is a great format for an outline. I particularly like the list of clues and motivations, I think that I could make up and run this scene from the details. Do you use an outline to plan out a flow from one scene/setting to another? I like to use a flow chart to plan out a variety of challenges (exploration/skill/combat) and the outcome, what happens with success or failure. It has a good sandbox feel though and should be pretty memorable. Just enough distance from the source material, the players may not realize what story they're in.

Thanks. I have to admit this is the first time I have ever written my notes up like this. I was inspired listen to a podcast with Mike Shey from slyflourish.com. He spoke about making a list of clues and not assigning them to a particular npc. This way if the players skip that npc it is easier to allow another npc to share the info. On my list, I put in parenthesis the npcs that made the most sense knowing that info. This list of scenes is my expected order of play. I kind of hope the players do something wacky to surprise me.
I am running this tomorrow night. I think I will go through the outline one more time. I want to add a little more detail to the scenes. Maybe pop in a couple remainders about being cinematic. Sometimes I tend to be a little number oriented.
