Hello Everyone!
My name is Kara, and I am a fairly new DM. My friends & I just recently got started playing D&D after a traumatic event happened in our lives. I wanted to be the DM because I have always been interested in coming up with my own fantasy stories & worlds. I love how Tolkien, the Elder Scrolls, and Star Wars all has such a vast lands and universes to them, & I am interested in the lore & creation that goes into all these fantasy/sci-fi worlds. I have always wanted to come up with my own ideas and worlds also, so I feel that DMing will be perfect. Also, I want to create great stories that my friends will remember for years to come. When memories are all that you have left of a person, you realize that you want to make as many as you can with the people you have left.
A little about me: I am married to my husband, Nathan, I play video games, I am a Graphic Designer, & I build & design Guitar Pedals at Rougarou Pedals for a living.
Honestly, I am a little bit intimidated joining the long history of D&D and also DMB and being a newcomer, so I feel a bit awkward. I hope to be a part of this community, and hopefully be a bit more confident with it down the line.
.Kara

Fear not! We all started fresh at one point. It is scary at times no matter how long you have been DMing. You have said some things that people don't even think about or do until years into their DM careers. "Also, I want to create great stories for that my friends will remember for pleural to come." This is an amazing mentality, and as written selfless because you didn't even include yourself, but you will no doubt have those same memories! Your next statement makes the traumatic event easy to infer, and my condolences go out to you and your friends. I can only hope that this awesome group of Blockheads will make you feel invited and help you on your journey to being a great DM, or rather show you how you already are one! Welcome to the Block Party Kara!
P.S. these pedals look bad ass! Do you do all the designs?

Welcome to the collective Kara. I began GMing for just that reason as well . While it can be intimidating I encourage you to stick with it. It honestly is some of the most rewarding world building activities, and we are all here to help and support that flow of creativity that keeps us going.

Hey Joatmoniac! Thank you for making me feel welcome. And thank you for the kind words. I really really appreciate it. As I come up with stuff for my world/adventure, I will keep everyone here updated. I am really excited to create & play D&D. We just finished Character Creation Night tonight. They created their character's stats/I set up a list of twenty questions for my friends to answer about their PCs so they can really get into their backstory. I also introduced them to the area they will be playing in on my map, and island called Eari (ee-yar-ee) that is of kin to Ireland. We are playing on a two week schedule, so now I have two weeks to come up with a general plot that I want my campaign to go towards, using their backstories as a guide to help me create it. I want them to shine in their own way, and let them each bring something good to the group. Now its time to just create that story to make them each feel like heroes.

P.S. I did design the artwork the pedals! My husband created the insides of them. Thank you so much, I really appreciate it! (We are super excited about them)

Lasersniper, Thank you! I plan on sticking with it for a long time. Even if all my friends were to drop out, my husband & I have too much fun with it. I have a solo evil campaign with him based off of Cthulhu. It is really rewarding, and I feel so creative doing this. I constantly have ideas in my head, and getting them out on to paper is good.

Heya Kara. Welcome to the world of DnD It's nice that you joined the Blockheads, not only will you find a great well of advice and knowledge, but also a cool community Nothing is more satisfying than writing stories and creating entire worlds for your friends to experience. It's a nice way to get into this whole thing, and hope we'll see you over in the DMNastics Gym

Howdy! I'm new here as well and know what you mean about not having confidence starting out. I just started my first campaign back in September and I'm a nervous wreck before each session (even though after each session everyone tells me that they had a blast). Each session things get a little easier, and I think I'm finally starting to get into the swing of things.
Also, to echo Joatmoniac up there, those pedals look sweet (and sound it too, judging by the demos up on youtube). My next pedal need will be a comp, so I'll have to add the Sasquash to my list of possibilities!

Kara!
Welcome to the Block Party! Don't be nervous, we love having new DMs and fellow geeks join our midst! I have to agree with Neal, those are some sweet looking guitar pedals! And also, Tolkien, the Elder Scrolls, and Star Wars are all amazing...and you should check out Geek Wars podcast if you haven't already! I think you'd like it!
