Ok so we started a new campaign the other night with my players starting as commoner tweens-teens at respective ages for their races to make them that way. I ended up putting them up against a level 3 bard, i did not expect the battle to turn out the way it did.
After the bard robbed the entire tavern for their gold with a sleep spell, the players tracked her into the nearby woods. When they found her, she cast an illusion to attempt to frighten 2 of the players, it was successful on 1 of them. 2 players were in the trees, 2 players on the ground.
the 2 on the ground got to her first. she posed in front of them with her violin and told them to turn back or they would die, and she didnt want to kill them. So one of the players on the ground picks up a Snow Ball. he said to me "I wanna try to distract her with a snowball" I say "Ok, roll a deception check, but your going to have-" he goes "Crit 20.." me "...........you lean forward with the snowball and show it to her. You whistle and say 'Go Get it girl', and against all odds, she looks at it as you throw it to the side."
He proceeded to run forward and grapple the crap out of her. Changed the whole rest of the fight.
