So yeah, being the only one at work with the other 3 1/2 people being on vacation apparently takes a lot out of me, and I completely spaced this week's DM Nastics! That addresses the second part of the title, time to address the first! There are 100 members on the forums now! That is freaking crazy and awesome! So rather than tie this back to the episode that is almost a week behind us I figured I would take the chance to see how people like DM-Nastics and how to make them better because the only reason they continue to exist is because of this awesome community on the forums. Attached is a poll to see which style of DM-Nastics has been the favorite, and to maybe get some sweet ideas that could be used as jumping off points for future DM-Nastics. P.S. I'm thinking about randomly giving away a prize to people who vote on this poll, because I can't help myself try and get as many voters as possible! Haha. Now, I don't know that I can see who actually voted, so if you vote you should totally make a post, so that if nothing else I can pull a random user from those who comment. P.P.S. We are super close to me getting to pass the torch I have held for a long time! Samuel Wise is about to pass me in posts and that is awesome! Once he does though, I have every intention of staying close on his heels so that he keeps posting!

I really don't have a FAVORITE type of DM-Nastics, though I do have a least favorite. This is just me but I find it really tough to stat out a creature. That and I just don't especially enjoy it and/or kill my party with an OP creature. I usually just find a creature in a monster manual, reskin it, and add a few new abilities. Because copy and pasting stats is not exactly beneficial to creativity, I have kinda stayed away from those specific DM-Nastics.

Thank you lasersniper! I thought I had mentioned it in my original post, but in hindsight I did not. Would love to hear any other critiques that other people have. I agree though that the full stats on a monster are time consuming and somewhat non inclusive even when done. You can't even just plug and play an idea posted unless it is the right rules that you play. I think the monster mash one worked well because it was concept over rules. Thanks again for the feedback!

My favorites are the collaborative types, with one caveat... I'm including myself in this criticism: the writers of collaborative DM-nastics need to make it clear that it's a piecemeal exercise where everyone contributes one or two ideas, not fill the entire thing out. If it's still incomplete after a few days, then people can pitch in additional ideas, of course.
Also about collaborative DM-nastics, they rarely get finished. I suggest they have fewer main entries (~8-10 max), but that they all include an additional/supporting material category, where people can either append more ideas to a category that's already been filled, or contribute ideas not part of the main categories.

My heart was split... until I realized you could vote twice! I would have probably also put collaborative, except I've had tons of fun making up some things out of words (especially DMnastics #5 and Coffinspire). And I'll second lasersniper when it comes to Monster Stats, but with some exceptions. The DMnastics concerning different races was especially good (though it did take longer to complete) and the monster mash up was a blast to see other's crazy ideas. I was pretty stoked when I noticed the numbers had reached 100. So many good ideas and memories have been made! And I've used many of them in my own games. And it seems (just by coincidence) that the ideas spawned here are always remembered when put in front of the gaming table. Great Job, everyone!

I haven't been around long enough to really say with authority (so I just voted once!), but in glancing back I've found it easiest to jump into one of the picture based ones when tight on time. I think it would be the same for the word based ones. I'll have to try out one of the collaborative ones!

Would people find it beneficial if I were to put a post into the DM-Nastics after they have been recorded, or a post after they have been released in an episode? I ask because some may want to jump on and only do the ones that have a chance to get them a shout out. Now that I have typed it out, only posting once it has been recorded makes an ounce of sense, haha.

First time posting but not the first time participating.
though I just recently joined the forums, I've been following the podcast religiously and catching up while at work. I drive a delivery truck around all day and work anywhere from eight to ten hours a day. Before DMB i was insanely bored. Then I started listening and heard the first DM-nastics. I kept listening to it over and over so that i wouldn't lose my train of thought and eventually ended up with some amazing homebrew stuff to throw right into my Campaign. This is the first one Ive posted on but I'll backtrack when i get the chance.
Given the above story my vote for visual aids might sound weird, but that is where i get my inspiration normally and when i was looping the DM-nastics bits of the podcast I was imagining the pictures that came to mind. So as a future DM-nastics participant i would love to see more photographic inspiration. Visual aids are amazing there's a reason they say a picture is worth a thousand words.

I really like the collaborative DM-nastics best.
In fact, I was thinking we should try to go meta and gather all the collaborative DM-nastics together and create a universe. We've already got (the makings of) a pantheon. I'd be happy to make a map that we could fill in for a DM-nastics. We could do historical events to generate a timeline...

This is not a foreign concept to me, haha. I have been mulling over some similar ideas about starting to build out the DMB/DM-Nastics campaign setting if you will. I will more diligently think through the logistics now that someone has expressed the same idea I have had. I would also love to discuss more about that map idea you have. Expect a message in your inbox soon enough!!

Thinking to leave the poll open for another week then figure out the best way to pick the winner form those who voted!

So I finally locked this thread, and sadly can't see who voted through the poll interface. I think that about half the voters have posted into the thread, but would love for others to post before picking someone at random to win a prize!
