Hey guys, finally caught up with most of the posts in this forum and say this welcome section at the bottom xD. I have been GMing for 3 1/2 years now? Been playing nearly as long. I jumped into 4e Dungeons and Dragons after I started listening to the Critical Hit podcast. Since then I have run numerous Pathfinder games, a Star Wars Edge of the Empire campaign, a 4e campaign, and numerous other pick up RPGs like Everyone is John, Lasers and Feelings, Cthulhu Dark ect. I have also played in Pathfinder games, 5e games, and a Stars Without Number game. Outside of Tabletop gaming, I am an Eagle Scout, hobbyist marksman, Star Wars fan(atic), Video Gamer, avid camper, hobbyist writer, podcast, and run a couple of YouTube shows. I would make some Top 5 favorites lists but it is pretty straight forward for me. Favorite Movies: Star Wars Favorite Books: Star Wars Favorite Games: Star Wars.....Okay maybe Rocket League for this one. Favorite Comic Books: Star Wars Favorite Food: Star Wa.....ooh uuuuh Pizza Favorite RPG: Star Wars Favorite Class: Sta... dammit here is another one, Rouge/Wizard I host a podcast called Dear Gamer with a friend. It is a podcast meant to answer anything gaming, though we usually lean more toward the video game side of things. I also host a political podcast called The Flipside where we try and cover both sides of controversial issues. Lastly, I produce the Quality Show, a gaming news podcast. All of them you can find on our hub site thefictionalrealities.comThat is pretty much everything I can think of. Now I can get back to the meat of the forums

Welcome to the forums! You should give us a link/name for your podcast. We have a lot of avid podcast listeners here on the forums. I have a question though: Do you like Star Wars? JK Have you listened to the Campaign podcast? Its from the creators of One Shot. They play Star Wars Age of Empire, and it is effin hilarious! A very serious Star Wars question: How do you feel about Episodes 1 through 3?

I've got another serious question: "what do you think of Disney cutting off the old book lines and story history?". I'll save my opinions for now... and I don't really want to get violent . Anywho, Welcome to the DM's Eco-friendly Forums! I've always wanted to play the Star Wars RPG (I'm a sucker for Fantasy Flight RPGs, though playing them makes me miss numbers).

I don't know that much about the Star Wars EU (I tend to prefer tricorders over lightsabers) but I reckon I know enough to say Howdy to a new Blockhead. =)
Or I suppose in Wookie-ish that would be Aaaaaaaghgh!

Wait, elaborate. Are we talking about not making the books canon for the new movies? Indeed. I understand it, but when you have collected (literally) 46 different Star Wars books dating post episode VI, it's harsh. I was actually kind of happy that they didn't adapt the books. Don't get me wrong, they were good stories, and when I heard about the new movies with the old actors, well, Thrawn was on my mind as well. But now we get new stories around those characters, and that makes me happy. I was curious about whey kjmagle said it was about the $$. Were you thinking royalties? Seems to me that the decision to ignore the "extended universe" could have been made for creative reasons just as easily. There was a lot of content and some of it was not internally consistent. We are talking about the series that contained Thrawn, but (if I remember correctly) there were other books that took place during the same time period, but did not include those events. If I were in charge of this decision, I think I would have chosen to scrap the extended universe as well. Not for monetary reasons, but just so nobody had to choose which pieces of the extended universe to include and which to leave out. Like you say Almarian, they would have had to comb through the content of (over?) 46 books to choose which content was canon and which was not. Then, all the Star Wars fan(atic)s who loved the content that was chosen as "inconsistent" would have been all upset about that choice. Easier to just start from scratch, making a very large group of fans who never read the books happy (and lets face it, most likely that represents the majority of Star Wars fans, if not the most rabid base), pissing off a smaller (but still large) group a little bit, but not pissing off a very small group of very die hard fans a lot. Sorry to derail your thread lasersniper, but as I derailed it to a Star Wars track, I doubt you mind

Too true. And that is what makes me the most frustrated : I would have done the same thing! . Still, it just means that they will have to work extra hard to make me like their characters. And there is much more then 46... that is just how much I owned. I'm not really this upset, I'm actually super excited for the upcoming movie(s). Indeed lasersniper, that's what happens here! It should be the official DMB forum welcome.

I agree that it is because there is allot out there but also it is $$$. It is cheaper to pay a writer owned by Disney then to try to get the rights for the book, which contains characters that may have started on a different book which then you have to pay them and so on.
It was a smart decision. Where we do not get the EU we will get new characters now which is also great.

In business, $$ is king. Always.
However, the decision to pretend Episodes 1-3 never happened? I'm calling that artistic integrity.
