For this one we will try and stretch our muscles by taking a single image and twisting it multiple ways. loosely inspired by being the best and worst players as DMs I thought about magic items and how they can swing back and forth in terms of usefulness and and burdens as curses. So grab whichever item strikes you, or post your own, and give your take on how it could be the best or worst magic item your players come across. Is it both within the same magic item for some reason!? 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. 8. That should eb good to get us started, but I will certainly add mroe if we run out!

5. Ring of Invisibility(/Ring of Here-I-Am) All attempts to magically divine this ring's function identifies it as a ring of invisibility. Actually a cursed item developed by a mischievous dryad, upon wearing the ring, while the wearer is rendered invisible, several motes of light forming an arrow point to the wearer from all sides. In addition, if the wearer attempts to remove the ring, a loud, shrieking wail emanates from the ring so as to draw attention. Idea comes from my cousin.

#6 Judgement
This was given to a noble king by the god of Justice. It gave the weirder authority to condemn souls to death, as power word kill but HP cap is 150 and you must successfully hit the target with the hammer. The target then turns to salt and shatters beneath the hammer. However, after each kill there is a cumulative 10% chance the hammer slays the weirder turning them to salt.
Once the power word feature is used, Attunement cannot be broken except by death or intervention by the god of judgment. Not that they would; the punishment for murder is death.

I'll post once I get past the complete grossness of a tooth pinecone Soooooooo, I thought about posting another image, but figured that depending on how creeped out you actually are by the toothcone, that wouldn't be very nice to do. So, if you are interested in the next step of creepp factor related to the toothcone you can search for Channel Zero Tooth Fairy at your own risk, haha.

Is it both within the same magic item for some reason!? 4. Helm of the Unslakable: Made from the tanned hide of a camel hump and hard to refine desert iron, this helm is encrusted with massive crystals of giant insect blood. The fusion is mingled with a strange magic that offers both a blessing and a curse. Grants the wearer haste, but the wearer cannot drink or eat anything but the driest foods. They are also reduced to animal intelligence while wearing the helmet. The helmet can only be removed while fully submerged in water.

7. My first time in the DM Gym! This one jumped out at me right away for some reason. Here's my thoughts on it: Name: The Capsule of Godsblood This is one of only a handful of these containers that was created to hold a sample of the blood of a deity. It was theorized that by wounding a deity, or finding one wounded, and gathering the blood within this vessel would bestow great power to whoever wielded it. When filled, this will act as a wand would, only the spell it casts would be a random (1d4) offense or defense spell, user's choice, from a list of spells associated with that deity. If you choose offense to cast a spell from it, it could be fireball, lightning bolt, charm person, etc. Defense would be like Barkskin, Mage Armor, etc. The user will know which 4 offensive and defensive spells the Capsule holds, but has no control over which one casts once they choose to cast one. The other downside to this, aside from the randomness, is that once a user possesses this capsule and uses it for the first time, it immediately draws attention to them from the deity who's blood is in the capsule. If you had an empty capsule and somehow got a willing sample from a good deity, then you may have nothing to worry about aside from knowing that this deity is watching you closely. If the sample was unwillingly taken, however... you better watch your back.

3. Boots of the Steadfast WarriorThese well wore and bloodstained boots have seen hundreds of battles, all worn by the bravest and most resolute warriors, never swaying, never faltering. It is said the wearer of these boots is granted incredible courage and an iron will. Never to loose ground to an enemy. IN PRACTICEThe boots root the wearer in place, not allowing them to be moved against their own will. Even the forces of gravity hold no sway against its wearers. However, it also prevents the wearer from retreating from combat themselves. Once engaged, the wearer cannot disengage. The boots can only be removed if the wearer has not seen combat in 12 months subtracted by their Wis Modifier.

2-Teeth of Vecna.
Once Vecna achieved lichdom his teeth began to fall out.
Being the creative fellow he was, Vecna animated them into a sea urchin however was a little too successful and this creature spends most of its time looking for plankton or leaf litter to munch on.
Once per day this delightful companion will turn into large size and ram-trample opponents. Use Rhino stats (as 5E Monster Manual 336) for 10 rounds.
A side effect of being attuned to this creature is your teeth will always be healthy and shiny.

6. Atlantean Symbol of Kingship Originally created and owned by the ruler of the undersea kingdom, the item grants it's bearer the ability to manipulate water. However, it only works if the user is physically touching the water he/she wishes to manipulate, there is a 50% fail rate with fresh water (DC10+ to succeed), and a crit fail results in an oceanic backlash (either the water turns on it's owner - reverse effect, or a water elemental appears to attack).

7. This one immediately caught my eye so I guess I am going to give it a go as well although I see it has already been done by at least one other. This is the legendary artifact 'Mages Soul' its effect is that is applies a maximize, enlarge and/or empower effect when used by a arcane spell caster at the DMs option (with no (visible) cost to the caster). However with each use the DM tracks the total uses increasing a counter to roll against on percentile dice (progression is up to the DM or this could be changed to will saves). The first three uses are 'free of risk' however the percentile range (or DC) for failure increases permanently with each subsequent use, until which the curse of this item becomes apparent and the casters soul is ripped from their body to fuel this artifact and used as power for the next unsuspecting spell-caster to chance across it. Once per day after the caster has used this item more than three times (total overall) there is a slight chance set by the DM that a past soul manages to attempt to 'whisper' to the caster (and only the user can hear these pleas) to either warn them of peril or encourage their use depending on the motivations of its last victim.

1. This incredible goggles were created by a particularly ingenious, if a bit nearsighted, gnome by the name of Jorvin Gigglemak. They grant the wearer advantage on Intelligence (Investigation) and Wisdom (Perception) skill checks, as well as saving throws against gaze attacks. However, those looking upon your face see only your enormous eyes, enlarged by the lenses of the goggles. A side effect of the same magic that enhances the wearer's vision makes them more susceptible to light-related spells and effects; to the point that even daylight can potentially blind the wearer. This could be the best item because it allows for increased perception and resistance to a medusa's gaze... yet, to blind you, all someone has to do is open a curtain...

2. AHHHHH, Ewwwwww, the horror of the tooth pinecone- I can't resist! Its true name has been forgotten, but a few sources refer to it simply as Hunger. Legend says that an ancient society of warriors adopted the belief that they would gain defeated enemies' strength by consuming their flesh. After a time, one of their number in his madness began to think to himself that if he could gain the strength of his enemies in this way, could he not also gain the strength of his commrades? If 100 of his commrades had each consumed 10 of their strongest enemies, then consuming them would give him the strength of 1000 warriors! Spending the last of his whits, he orchestrated the deaths of all of his tribe and tasted their flesh. He then fashioned Hunger from their teeth to channel their strength and carry it with him. (It would make sense for a god of cannabalism to be involved in the making of this item- does anyone know of one? I found mention of Karaan, god of lycanthropes, but was not satisfied with that. If you're a wolf at the time, is it really cannibalism to eat your neighbor? ). HungerAttuneable by a martial class. The item has three charges daily. An attuned character can expend 1 charge to gain a strength of 24 and add 1 damage die to all attacks for 1 minute. All charges are replenished at dawn. Before taking a long rest, the attuned character must make a wisdom saving throw. The DC will increase based on how many days the character has been attuned to Hunger and how many charges were used that day. On a fail, the character feels an overwhelming desire to take the power of his comrades for himself by consuming them.
