Hello! I just signed up for the site and plan on spending my 3-day weekend reading through it, but thought I'd say hi first.
My name is Rich and I played D&D a lot when I was a teenager. My brothers and I were players, my dad the DM. After moving out I didn't play for about 23 years until the MacElroy brothers got me interested again with The Adventure Zone. My friends and I decided to start up a campaign and we're currently sitting in Phandalin getting ready to go on our 4th mission. But our DM wants to play too, so he asked me to start doing side missions that he could jump in on.
I listened to a million podcasts and other than TAZ and Smash Fiction's Extraordinary League adventures none of the rest hooked me. Then I discovered this one and I've been insanely hooked ever since. I've never even DM'd and I already have one small homebrew campaign ready to go and have a huge homebrew one in the works on Roll20 (just learning it too).
I'm behind on all my other podcasts because of this one. It's not just informative and educational, but every single episode seems to light up my imagination and sends me running back to my campaigns to edit, change, and add stuff to make it cooler. I'm practically a virgin with playing/running a campaign, but am an uber-fanboy for all things sci-fi and fantasy. I'm here hoping to gain a ton of knowledge and maybe run ideas past everyone to get critiques, ideas, and suggestions. I look forward to meeting you all!
Also, I'm not sure if it's standard but I'll introduce you to the character I'm playing now. All my friends are smart-assed nerds and drunkards, so our campaigns are as much shenanigans as it is actual gameplay. So my character is a Dragonborn Paladin named WuceBrayne ManBat (named such just because it'd irritate my DM). He's basically a campy, not-too-bright, good hearted Adam West style Batman. He has been trying as hard as he can to recruit our young barbarian as his sidekick and is finally swaying him. He's not lawful dumb, but he'll interrupt anything the players are doing to help someone who needs it and constantly interferes with the other players when they try to do shady stuff. He's also clumsy as hell (stupid die rolls) so every time he tries to sneak from the shadows he invariably makes a huge racket and ends up sprawling on his face into the cavern full of enemies while his party cringes behind him.
