You read right. My party is about to head up to Neverwinter, and as one of the themes of my campaign is the return of magic to the realms, I'm going to have them pass a Mage Festival. Everything at the festival will be weird or slightly magical in some way, but very few things will be outright powerful. Sure, that wizard could do powerful transmutation spells if needed, but he can also do magical facepaint for kids all day.
This is going to be full of allusions to peoples and plot hooks that will hopefully pay off later in the adventure, but I also want to flesh it out with some stuff that is just there for fun. So, what animals would you put in a magical animal petting zoo? I'm thinking that it's okay if they're slightly more dangerous than a real life petting zoo is, but I can't have like, a baby manticore in there, you know? Also things like pegasi and unicorns are a little too special to be in a zoo.
Right now I'm thinking there will be some baby hippogriffs and a pseudodragon with a cork on its stinger, what other unusual or slightly magical beasts would you stock a magical petting zoo with?

The two that sprung to my mind almost immediately were displaced beasts and blink dogs. I think that both have some funny descriptor elements to them. The blink dog could be getting pet by several people at the same time. The displaced beat could push people around with their suckers when it gets fed up with the kids, haha.

Dragon fairies exhale euphoric gas. That would be entertaining.

I was thinking Blink gods as well, also if you want something a little more on the dangerous side, you could have, my favourite creature (and the only thing I have bookmarked in the 3.5 MM) the Ethereal Marauder! You'd probably need to have it muzzled and corked. Maybe even a baby rust monster, a tiny Ooze, or a tree over in the corner that is actually a tree with a Dryad in, but unless someone asks (or interacts with the tree) nothing is said about it other than it's there.

I'm adding blink dogs, tressyms, and deep rothes to my zoo
