So for a while I have been playing with the idea of letting one of my party play as some of the monsters from around the world of D&D. Recently it came to mind that maybe they are all stuck in the underdark for one reason or another,so I had players the session before pull a monster out of a hat and then build a level 5 character around that little beasty and go on from there. The group unfortunately fell apart after this but i figured id put up the general idea (and some of the concepts with player permission) for you guys and girls. we ended up with: - Fighter - Male - Gnole
- Rogue - Male - Goblin -who claims he is a hobgoblin but has never actually seen one
- Wizard - Female - Drow -exiled and been very bossy
- Barbarian - Female(?) - Dog - was a Dire Wolf but RNG dice rolls ended up making this much more amusing and funnily enough the most intelligent creature there.
For one reason or another there stuck in the darkness with no supplies, cruddy gear and a map that maybe-sorta leads out of the winding caverns (think of one of those 'follow the string' games in kids books). Of course there not going to last too long in a fight so, hunting, stealing and cheating is the only way they can get out of this mess. Never really got around too thinking about what they could and might encounter beyond a Dwarven patrol with fresh rations. ^^;

This sounds like a really fun one shot, or side quest. It could lead to some interesting ideas if the players really latch onto it, and want to play it frequently. Could lead into having the two parties cross paths, and seeing what comes of that. Do they fight each other, or do they join forces?

I really enjoy the races of each of the PCs, that opens a lot of fun RPing oppurtunities within the game. Great, great idea for a one shot, especially if you focus on the Wonderland type feel of the underdark.

Yeah that turned out interestingly and the players own little spins on the creatures, Still really want to see how Dog would have turned out XD
