So, this is not an awesome story from a DM prespective, its about something that just happened in a Play by Post game I'm involved it. I'm just giddy about it, so I wanted to share Thanks for indulging me by reading! This is a Star Wars game, set in the Old Republic. The GM started us at Knight Level (150 base xp); which is essentially like starting a D&D campaign at around 5th level. So even though we just got rolling, my character feels pretty bad@$$ to me. He's a Smuggler with the Thief and Gunslinger specializations. I optimized for false identities and for quick drawing on opponents. Anyway, we're doing some side deal, selling some Glitterstim we stumbled across before headed out on the main mission (to assassinate a Sith General). As we're doing this deal, there were several indicators that the people we were dealing with might not be on the up and up. So my character made a surreptitious call to his contact who set up the drop. Contact didn't answer. So my character yelled "Its a double cross!" drew his blasters, and toasted the leader of the gang. I don't think the rest of the party or the GM saw it coming. It was quite possibly the grandest player moment of my life thus far. It appears I am 100% an Instigator Player Edit: If you haven't scoped out Gamersplane yet. Please, do yourself a favor and go start an account. I'm having so much fun over there as a player and a GM!

So, this moment that was so awesome for me, actually caused a bit of drama in this game. Essentially, my character started a fire fight on a hunch and a few of us just decimated this group of cheap thugs. The drama came from our two resident Jedi. One of them is a "Sith Hunter" working for the Jedi council. The other is a fallen Jedi who has left the umbrella of the Jedi Council because he believes their tactics will not win the war vs. the Sith (this takes place during the war between the Old Republic and the Sith). The "fallen" Jedi's player made some off-hand comment about wanting to kill the last two thugs in the group. The Sith Hunter Jedi went to the out of character thread (this is a PbP game) and went on a rant about needing to roll up a different character because his guy would want to attack and kill any Jedi who was killing "innocents" (never mind that these are hardened criminals who were buying a load of drugs from us and possibly getting ready to double-cross us). In D&D terms, I was the naughty rogue who started a (possibly) unnecessary fight with some underpowered enemies, Sith Hunter is a Paladin, and Fallen Jedi is the CN Fighter. The whole group had to talk down Sith Hunter to keep him from jumping ship and rolling up a new character. He said he wasn't interested in managing inter-party conflict. I think we calmed him down for now. So, let this be a lessen for all us Instigator players: Your fun instigation may have unintended out of game consequences. Oops.

Makes me chuckle. I love instigators, because they always add something completely different to the story. However, I say this with no experience with instigators causing out of game friction. I really enjoy this story however. Thanks for sharing!
