I have a good link for a youtube videa (somewhere) on a similar table. I have drawn up plans for my own, have the spare TV, just need the extra money for wood, and time for building. Project for next year.

Someday I hope to make an octagonal gaming table with a tiered elevating interior so i don't have to set up terrain I can just keep raising it up and removing the current level when the encounter is over. I wanna add light effects, a sound effects system, maybe even a fog machine.
Maybe someday I'll achieve my overreaching plans. Lol

Hey a little dry ice on the side would make a nice ground fog effect.

I too have had dreams of the table I would build if only I had the materials/time. I have some experience building furniture but the biggest limitation right now is space. Our apartment is pretty modest size-wise and there just wouldn't be enough space for a decent, dedicated gaming table. We won't live here forever though (probably) so every so often I ponder the notion. At the moment I'm picturing a hexagonal table (one side for each player) with foam lined, concealable compartments on each side (storage or dice box), cubby holes under the table for books and such, and a big foam center (probably with EVA flooring tiles like they have above) for the maps and things. Oh it will be glorious!
And it'll probably be made out of MDF so it won't cost 40 bajillion dollars. I'll have to find a nice veneer so it doesn't look like the IKEA project it will, in truth, be.

Hey a little dry ice on the side would make a nice ground fog effect. And the bright red neon lights, such as you would find at the local tavern.

I'm hoping to build one this year! I've done a little woodworking and have the space, my biggest issue is deciding on a plan. Keep those ideas flowing
