This is a really cool list of questions one can use to flesh out a world or setting, just discovered it so thought i would post it here before running of to fill this thing out for my own setting! Roll deadly my fellow DMs.

Worldbuilding Questionnaire
Bookmarked. Very good resource for world building, and particularly relevant as I go about reimagining my homebrew setting. I don't think I'll answer each and every question for each and every nation (there's a lot countries in my setting!) but it will serve to flesh out many aspects.

So true, there are only 3 countries in my world and I don't think I would want to answer every single question. Hopefully this can be used to just guide toward getting the information we need that is relevant to our players written down and fleshed out.

Interesting. Yes, that is probably overkill, but a good basis for questions to ask! Nice find Main!

An awesome find, and definitely not something I'd want to fill out. Even if I had all of that information, I think filling it out fully would be a symptom of Worldbuilder's Disease and would keep me from gaming/writing/whatever I intended to do with the setting. Maybe pick a couple from each set of questions that would make your society stand out? With humanoid societies on Earth-like worlds, many things will be consistent, and what's important are the places that stand out. The currency here is based in soul-gems from the nation's slain foes. Every tenth year there is a summer so brutal it burns a lot of the land above-ground. There are no wars and no military, and all disputes are resolved with improvisational song and poetry. Etc.

Yes. I could def. start on this questionnaire and never get any directly-applicable adventure planning finished ever again. LOL! However, I love the idea of picking a question from each category for different regions/societies/cities to give them flavor.
There's also some great cultural plot hooks here: the PCs are invited to a wedding. What do they bring as gifts? How do the other guests respond when the rouge randomly pulls a jeweled knife from her pack and offers it to the groom--when sharp objects are considered ill-omened gifts because they symbolically "cut" the ties of kinship honored at weddings?

So I decided to give this a whirl... and I answered every single question about one of the countries in my world. I am exhausted and now have 30+ pages of world building questions about this country. I doubt I will ever do this again, but it was extremely helpful and now I know more about this country, then my own neighborhood.

I will end up having to take knowledge skills in our Gamers Plane game to make up for all this research, haha. Glad you did it. It's a really fun excercise. Might have to be a DM-Nastics at some point.

Probably a good exercise, I don't know if I ever will though.
