Wurmwood takes place in a world that was much like our own till it was hit by meteorite the people named it wurmwood because of the blight that came with it a creeping fungus that kills all living things with its spores only to reanimate the body in order to spread it's spores further This event became known as star fall and marked the beginning of a new era
Some how either the power of wurmwood or maybe the impact recharged the world's lay lines causing them to over flow with arcane power bringing magic back to man when I started building the world of wurmwood I wanted it to be believable I wanted the players to think this could happen in real life or at least most of it I purposely wanted to stay away from the go to explanation for gms "magic"So I researched magic in the world of wurmwood is a side effect of the cause not the cause it's self wurmwood(the meteorite) is a good example of this there's no traditional undead in wurmwood but the creeping fungus that kills all living things then reanimate them to spread further is a real life thing(YouTube zombie snails) just in this case it works for all living things instead of just insects I also wanted to Have a medevil look and feel but not cut out the technology that makes a post apocalyptic setting so technology still exists in the form of firearms, medicine, advanced genetics and robotics this is very much a scrapper world were armor and weapons are often salvaged from things that were left over from the old world It's a very fudel setting with hundreds of tribes, gangs and factions waring over resources the game it self will take place some where in between 800 to 1200 years after the sf event (I know what your going to say "but thug how's all this stuff just laying around for players to salvage it would have degraded by now " witch would be true under our current atmosphere witch scientists theorize would not be the case if we were hit with a meteorite big enough)in a place called the sprawl a mega city(picture LA and NY as one city) where it'll be there job to establish a trade settlement for a faction known as the guild(basically a large group of scavenger/traders banded together for protection) I wanted to have a open world feel so I have a check list of things that they'll need to do to settle starting with moving the current residents out and allowing them to choose what they'll move on to next I also plan on peppering the environment with points of interest that they may want to come back to later I have ton of content for this already laid out and in later posts I'll introduce some of the antagonist and races and how I've tweaked them to frustrate my veteran players tell me what you think so far
