Omg the idea of a Basan cavalry is amazing! Do run an oriental setting for your game? I want to try one, but my players have a hard time visualizing the setting compared to the western style.

Robosnake's setting is very heavily Asian themed, and amazing! You should check out the activity tab in his profile as most posts are about the world or awesome links to the hone brew stuff he has made. That or dig around on the site the link above takes you too. Tons of great Asian themed content that could definitely help you guide your players into a more eastern setting.

For ease of reference, here are the posts about my Asian themed setting from my blog: doughagler.wordpress.com/category/dragonblade/For help visualizing the setting, I use a lot of art in the Obsidian Portal page we use, and I point them towards movies like House of Flying Daggers and Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon. Also Kung Fu Panda, because it isn't a 100% serious game and I love the imagery in those films. I try to use a mix of traditional/historical art and sculpture and more pop culture stuff like movies. Also, like for any other setting, you pick a few key details to highlight. One for my setting is that there are no horses, and fewer of the usual domesticated animals. So if you meet a calvary unit, they're rising suzaku birds or nian rather than light or heavy horses. Also, with an Asian theme, just adding monkeys as an everyday animal makes a big difference. Add them where you'd put a squirrel or something as a little detail. Lastly, I took a cue from kung fu movies and had competing martial arts schools in the first major city the PCs came to. So there were champions standing on platforms in city squares, shouting challenges to passersby to prove their skills. Since where the players are right now is rooted in Chinese culture, this bit is easier, since everyone has seen at least one kung fu movie. When they move on to the areas more based on India or Malaysia it'll be harder as there are fewer cultural touchstones I can reference. But still definitely fun.
