Wow, more amazing creatures! I am going to take the Nian. It is perfect for a Final Fantasy themed campaign. As for the Suzaku... that looks less like a Japanese Phoenix, then like a Japanese Emu. All three of these are awesome!

Wow, more amazing creatures! I am going to take the Nian. It is perfect for a Final Fantasy themed campaign. As for the Suzaku... that looks less like a Japanese Phoenix, then like a Japanese Emu. All three of these are awesome! Agreed - I was kind of going for a real prehistoric creature that could have led to stories of a phoenix. Also, it was hard to find images of a phoenix that seemed like someone could reasonably saddle up. But, for a FF themed campaign, Suzaku are clearly very similar to Chocobo, and that is intentional According to wikipedia at least, the chocobo was partly based on the gastornis, which was an ancient flightless bird I also looked at as inspiration for the Suzaku. But, anyway, in the Suzaku I saw a point where I could borrow the idea of the chocobo without the name, basically. I also really like the image of light cavalry composed of people riding huge flightless birds.
