I love Mindmapping. I use it for stories I write, essays I write, and for my school in general. It is one "alternative" solution to outlining. And I think I might have found a new use for Mindmapping: D&D. A Mindmap certainly helps when brainstorming all the possible routes a player (or players) can take. I think it is a great visual aid for Dungeon Masters and could be (theoretically) quite useful, especially in longer games. My Mindmap of Brynn's Quest using the app "iThoughts" (this branches off into several other mindmaps I have written out and it's a bit small, sorry):

Really great idea because it's fairly easy to plan things out and see how you could use them regardless of the path that they choose. It would help to create and end game when you might not know what it is. I think the biggest bonus is having great contingency plans for players who often go off the rails. Will probably give iThoughts a go, or use one of the ones in this article ( lifehacker.com/five-best-mind-mapping-tools-476534555 )

I should probably become better at this as it would help with plotting adventures.

Mindmapping has been really useful as I have planned out my campaigns. If one has a tendency to under-prepare, then Mindmapping forces them to slow down and throw all their ideas on the paper before running a game. Mindmapping can also speed up the amount of time spent on preparing. And I forgot to mention that, you don't even need a program. Drawing Mindmaps on paper work just as well... and you can be a little more creative.
