Also, mimics would be so fun to use in carnival games. I love the idea of a "find the real chest" game where you go into a room full of tame mimics (they just slobber all over you if you try to open them) and maybe a couple chests with a minor prize and one with a major prize. If you come out slobbered, you don't get to keep the prize. I'm trying to think of something to do with smoke sticks. Maybe smoke stick juggling, where visibility gets worse and worse as others drop their sticks. Or maybe trying to hit a displacer beast with thrown smoke sticks. It's hard to begin with, but once the space fills up with smoke and your time is still running it gets really hard. Maybe they don't tell you its a displacer beast. "Step right up! Just hit that big cat with one of these flower packets and win a prize. Only 5 coppers!" How high could the DC be? Well-guess-what-it's-a-displacer-beast. Reading this post makes me think of a video I saw of a Japanese TV show (of course) where people were put in a room and loads of stuff in the room was made of chocolate, tte D&D version could be that some of the stuff in the room is real, some is made of food and some are Mimics. The PCs have to find all of the food made items before they find all of the Mimics with only their teeth.
