I'm sure that we are all still coping with not having an episode to listen to this week. The warmest of wishes to DM Chris (aka DM_Chris) and his wife and their wedding! Not having an episode doesn't mean we can't have DM-Nastics though! This week I was thinking about downtime activities in our games, but didn't want to leave the DM-Nastics to simply that. That topic is relatively broad and has some mechanical rules behind in already written (like in this reddit post.) However, on a recent thread (that I can't seem to find in the sea of awesome that is these forums) there was talk of starting a group inside a faire and have particular games for individual characters/classes. Building off of that, I thought it would be awesome for us to all build out a faire. As the title suggests "It's All Faire Game" so anything goes at this faire, and like the larger ones I envision that this would be a multi-day or even multi-week event. There could be a wide variety of craftsmen making and selling wares. Do the players learn how to make, or simply buy what they need? A wide variety of games of chance that could test strength, intelligence, dexterity, and most certainly charisma. Are they rigged, or on the up and up, or maybe they can be cheated at? Also, I think we should establish some basic info about the faire. Name: Time of the Year: Length of the Event: Who Runs It (Race or Person): I think that if there are multiple suggestions for the name that I will put up a poll to see what we collectively decide on. Also, what kind of special events could happen? An illusionist, a concert, acrobatics, etc. Hopefully this can tide us over until Sunday! Link to DM-Nastics Segment #19

Name - New Dawn Treaty
Time of the year - 22.4 (22nd Day of the 4th month. Time is recorded as 22.4.358.3, 22n day of the 4th month of the 358th year of the 3rd age). If that makes sense...\
Length of event: It is a week long celebration. The first three days are basically a build up to the feast which takes place on the 4th night. After the feast, the last 3 days are spent celebrating new friendships and old as well as cleansing the body of old 'sins'.
Who runs it: The event is held all over the world, some places have their own cultural spice added to the festival but its the 'core' of the celebration remains the same.
Looking forward to others posts!
EDIT: This is a holiday that I use in my homebrew!

I think this is the thread you referenced. I'm going to add an exotic creature wrestling event to our Celebration of the New Dawn Treaty. These are creatures who have been captured and altered (either physically or through magic) to eliminate their ability to kill and maim, but still retained their strength. The berserked barbarian orc in a strength matchup versus a polar bear or ankylosaurus; the nimble wood elf matching speed with a giant wasp, tiger, or dryad hippogriff. This could also produce an interesting dynamic amongst PCs and NPCs alike, as people react to the idea of capturing creatures and forcing them to perform for entertainment. Some people thing it's great, while others might not think it's very kind. Also, there are alcohol consuming contests.
I like the idea of adventurers playing midway games. It could be really interesting to see new games that are tailored to a world in which magic exists. Can the wizard shoot his magic missiles through a series of hoops before they hit the targets? Or maybe the game purveyors have to match the magic of the players... want to (cheat and) use mage hand to knock the bottles of the table, augmenting your throw? Well, the person running the game has readied dispel magic and has an opportunity to stop you. Also, mimics would be so fun to use in carnival games.

Also, mimics would be so fun to use in carnival games. I love the idea of a "find the real chest" game where you go into a room full of tame mimics (they just slobber all over you if you try to open them) and maybe a couple chests with a minor prize and one with a major prize. If you come out slobbered, you don't get to keep the prize. I'm trying to think of something to do with smoke sticks. Maybe smoke stick juggling, where visibility gets worse and worse as others drop their sticks. Or maybe trying to hit a displacer beast with thrown smoke sticks. It's hard to begin with, but once the space fills up with smoke and your time is still running it gets really hard. Maybe they don't tell you its a displacer beast. "Step right up! Just hit that big cat with one of these flower packets and win a prize. Only 5 coppers!" How high could the DC be? Well-guess-what-it's-a-displacer-beast.

I want to join in!
You could do Midway style games easily enough I would think. You could even have the shifty carny guy that could spark a small encounter for players at the Faire.
(Feel free to tweak or modify these ideas obviously, and a lot of this would be in the description, the numbers are just ideas from my 5E tuned brain.)
Everyone else seems to be covered the fantastical side of the faire, thought I might throw out some mundane challenges to fill out a little bit.
Log/Rock Toss - "Only the strongest need even try to heft these logs!"
Log/Rock Toss! A large log is hefted onto the shoulder and then flung forward in various styles to try and achieve the farthest distance. STR Save DC14 (DC = 10+1 per 100/200 pd of log/rock maybe) on success means you have maintained the log and sent your toss successfully. STR Ability Check would be the feet you managed to toss the log, or where it came to rest for the contest.
Axe Throwing - "Test your skill with the Axe, unless ye be scared!" (I see a dwarf running this, and if everyone failed he would almost without thinking show them how it's done with amazing skill.)
Axe Throwing A melon or other object is tossed into the air by an official, and the object is to cleave the melon as near to center as possible. STR or DEX Ranged Attack vs AC15? (Flying Melon) The cleanest cut of the melon can be determined by the best attack roll of contestants.
Drinking Contest - "Think you can out drink the man next to you?"
Drinking Contest Players go through 3 rounds of drinking and have to make DC's that step up. Make it through all three rounds and assume the player is the last one standing. Round 1 - DC12 Con Save | Round 2 - DC15 Con Save | Round 3 - DC18 Con Save
Others ideas or tweaks to this?
Edit:
Trial of Champions - Grand Melee
Trail of Champions This is a large melee for anyone that wants to participate. Participants would be given a non-lethal, non-magical weapon to match their own. They will have to strip all armor (or be provided some leather) and can use only weapons. This will pit all contestants (in case it comes about) with equal weapons and no armor. The winner would get a purse based on the entrance of all contestants.
Entrance Fee: 50GP or 100GP per contestant. (This will keep common folk out of the contest, so it would be Knights and the sort who think they can win the purse. Purse: All Entrance Fees - 10% for the Faire earnings Betting: Players could bet against or for their team members, or another contestant.
-You could even run this as a visual for players to watch and not participate. -If a player wins the contest, he could be considered locally famous perhaps.

Name: Tournament of the Blood Moon Time of the Year: under Blood Moon Length of the Event: one night Who Runs It (Race or Person): Humans Dromon Luxford
This festival is only during a Blood Moon. While waiting for the next Blood Moon groups of werewolf hunters search and capture lycans throughout the land.
The hunter then put the people/werewolf through training for the upcoming event. Wether it is willing or not to fight other lycan.
The day of the tournament the Lycans are branded with a number paraded around the town. The people with cheer and size up each one.
They will them take them to the stadium and prepare for the festivities. Meanwhile there will be food and drinks in the streets. People dressed up in wolf heads and others acting like hunters.
When it gets close to sundown the people will make their way back to the stadiums where they take their seats and to find all the Lycan chained up. Each one stripped down of clothes. The stadium is cover with bars to prevent any escape.
The people will yell their jeers and place their bets as fast as they can.
Soon it will get dark... The chains will be released And the moon will shine down onto the stadium. The Lycan will turn to werewolves in front of the townspeople. The crowd will get louder with excitement. Soon they werewolves will fully turn and soon they will start attacking each other. The crowd will erupt in cheers every time a wolf goes down. Until the last one then the crowd will go crazy. Cheering and applauding the last Wolf warrior!
After all the excitement is done the will start chanting "veri susi! veri susi!" Blood Wolf! Blood Wolf!
As the chants get louder the town guards circle around the stadium opening with their crossbows. The Ruler Dromon Luxford will come forth also with his own hand crossbow. He will raise his hand aim at the werewolf and bring his hand down as he shoots. The rest of the guards will shoot also until the werewolf is dead.
The hunters with the winning lycan will win the tournament money.
--------------
This is a pretty ty dark one but stuff like this happens. Depends on how far the players let it go.

Name: Kingsday. Time of the year: the anniversary of the coronation of the first king ( and all subsequent kings) Length: Half-a-tenday, with the actual day towards the end. Who runs it: The kingdom of Marragard, though it is more widely celebrated in the capital, where a festival takes place with various booths and games, not to mention a play set up by the bards guild depicting the founding of the kingdom by the First-King. outlying villages differ in ways of celebrating, but the Kingsday itself always seems to rack up a nice profit in the tavern, all in the name of the king of course.

I think this is the thread you referenced. Also, mimics would be so fun to use in carnival games. That's the one! I also think that adding mimics would be awesome. A room filled chest, cupboard, and drawers that are either mimic or prize would be great. I think that the idea of having strong anti-magic is a necessity at a faire in suggest a magic rich setting. The mimic idea falls apart if there is a magic item and a wizard simply casts Detect Magic or Boots of Haste are involved and the player can check more chests than anyone else. Pretty sweet ideas so far. I didn't even think about a tournament, but how could there not be one? I also like that some of the ideas could lead to side quests if the players don't fully agree with what is happening. The lycan idea could also just go seriously wrong and the players have to help after the fact. Making something bad happen when the players are either super full on food, or a wee bit drunk could be a great way to reintroduce a monster that would normally pose little threat.

Make it through all three rounds and assume the player is the last one standing. Round 1 - DC12 Con Save | Round 2 - DC15 Con Save | Round 3 - DC18 Con Save It wouldn't be a faire without this! You could even have a roll off between the player and NPCs. Not everything that happens in this wonderful faire is legal: Zombie Sheep Rodeo: A favorite (though frowned down upon) pastime of this faire is Zombie Sheep Rodeo. One student of some famed magical university would learn a bit of necromancy to turn sheeps into zombies. This would all happen in "The Barn" a secret meeting place where Z.S.Rs are practiced only once a year. In the enchantment phase one poor sheep is chosen from the flock to be cursed. The young, stupid necromancer scores points in how disgusting (1-6), fast/aggressive (1-6), twisted/gnarled (1-8), and the largeness of size (1-10) the zombie sheep is. After the curse, is the rodeo. One brave soul (who is usually drunk) attempts to mount and ride the zombie sheep. The man is usually (though not always) bitten by the sheep, turning into a sheep/zombie hybrid for quite sometime. Points are scored on his nonchalant behavior (1-6), his ability to avoid being bitten (1-6) and his ability to ride the sheep (2 points every 10'seconds). This is a very (very) frowned upon tradition. The guardsmen will (most likely) rat it out, kill all the zombies, and arrest everyone attending if the could find The Barn.

This might make a better event at a festival rather than full festival, or maybe not.
Name: Open Stage or Bard's Night Time of the Year: Any Fall or Spring Festival Length of the Event: A few days
Stemming from old traditions of barroom storytelling and public orations, the Open Stage is a simple event popular at many festivals around the world. Amateurs, layman, and the proverbial "common folk" are invited to come up on stage and perform brief skits or stories for the public. Sometimes brief scripts are provided, if only to give the "actors" a place to start, but the expectation is that any stories will be spontaneous. All the event really requires is a stage though conventionally an assortment of props, costumes, and "libations" are provided as well.
I used an event similar to this in our campaign somewhat recently. I gave the players print-outs of a Monty Python skit (King Arthur vs the Black Knight) and the PCs had access to a wide range of costumes and props. The players started out following the script (sort of) and quickly went off into their own thing. As the DM I RPed the audience to let them know how things were going. They went off-script pretty quickly (which was the point) and we wound up with an illusory dragon "eating" a naked gnome while a tiefling knight shouted challenges. It was a bit of goofy fun.

Love the underground Zombie Sheep Rodeo and the involvement of Food Mages. And what would this event be if there wasn't a battle of the bands!? I think that a fashion show could be an interesting addition. Not only would the players have to do their best to put together their clothes, but they would also have to their best turning the actual event. I know someone mentioned log tossing, but why not add some cheese rolling. The other thing that I think is a must would definitely be a creepy old fortuneteller!

The other thing that I think is a must would definitely be a creepy old fortuneteller! This is a must! There is so much fun one can do with fortunetelling, especially if the things came true or if the fortune teller kept predicting the past(bonus: in need of a TPK? Just have the fortuneteller give creepy riddles and enact Final Destination: High Fantasy Version).

Thought I would throw these into the mix. These are the prize ideas that MainPRIZE and I came up with in the DM-Nastics segement. All kinds of prizes are needed; good ones and bad ones. Base the prizes off of the style of game that is happening, easy games get simple potentially useless items and the more difficult ones have better and better prizes. Near impossible games could warrant magical items possibly. Stuffed monsters could be fun like taxidermized monsters potentially or smaller versions. A strength based contest could award a belt that looks like a pro wrestling belt. Low plus to STR, likely only one, but more for specific things like plus 3-5 to lifting and tossing. Mainprize thought up the great idea of pluses to tree kicking, haha. Win a game get a healing potion, essentially allowing discount through games for regularly purchased items. The prizes could also be trinkets to use to give to kids to help ease diplomatic situations.
