Request: I need ideas for encounters/events/cool things to happen on the body of a dead god.
Premise: Orcs have enslaved a group of Dwarven specialist miners to extract the petrified blood of a dead god floating in the Astral Plane. This special mineral is then exported to the BBEG who uses it to create an inter-planer "star-gate" type device.
Background: 4e. Planescape inspired homebrew. A "star-gate" type device pulled the PCs home kingdom onto the first layer of Baator.
The Orcs are members of a tribe that ties in to a Half-Orc in the party. The Orcs are in the employ of the BBEG. The dwarves are also a tie-in to a planer PC that comes from the Dwarven Mountain on the Outlands. The enslaved dwarves are likely very distant relatives.
The PCs are guided to the floating dead god by a group of Githyanki. As it turns out, the Orcs got lucky when encountering a small group of Githyanki and now have a silver sword in their possession. The Orcs (or the players) don't actually have any idea what the significance of it is, or that many Githyanki will come hunting it. Not wanting to take on the entire Orc clan inhabiting the floating god themselves, the Githyanki intend to use the PCs as shock troops and will turn on them if necessary.
Ideas I have on Scratch Paper So Far:
The dead god has its own gravity field that extends 30 feet into the astral. This will make for some fun combat and falling mechanics. I'm envisioning dive bomb attacks from Orcs joining the fray from above. Maybe the casters of the group will figure out a way to fight above the fray?
The watchtowers set up by the Orcs extend up 35 feet and allow them to enter the astral where they can move faster.
The Dwarves, who are chained together, will join any fray within earshot. Six angry Dwarven slaves chained together and charging sounds fun.
The Githyanki will scout the dog god and include the players in their attack strategy session.
Orc chieftain flailing a silver sword instead of an axe. The sword falling into the hands of the party first, instead of the Githyanki.
I'll probably use astral ships at some point during the assault.
Thought provoking questions?
What could live here naturally?
Any good random astral encounters come to mind?
