Time to get paid, Blockheads! The notorious mastermind Diemmich Encriss is putting together a team to pull off a totally sweet heist. For this DM-nastic, first create one of the members on the team. No stat blocks, just a basic background and description, including his talents. Then choose from the following elements which tie into your character. Could be that your character has knowledge of that element, has the right tools to deal with it, or whatever hook you care to come up with. Feel free to pick more than one! 1) What is the target? An object? A person? Will there be any difficulties in transporting it? 2) Where is it stored? Consider the general area (city, wilderness, etc.) and the specific structure (fortress, prison, bank, etc) 3) Infiltration method. How is the team going to get inside? Will they split up and use multiple methods of entry? 3a) entry 1 3b) entry 2 ...
4) Who or what is in charge of protecting it? Is it a person? A monster? 5) Who or what are the guard staff? Humans? Dogs? Zombies? Gargoyles? Balors? 5a) Guard type 1 5b) Guard type 2 ...6) What is a non-personnel security feature? Traps? Surveillance devices? Alarms? Lava? 6a) feature one 6b) feature two ... 7) What is the nature of the vault? This is the precise location of the target within 2), and excluding 6)
8) Something goes wrong! This can happen at any point during the heist, e.g. during the infiltration, at the vault, etc. 7a) complication one 7b) complication two ...9) Exfiltration method(s) 10) The Aftermath. Will the team be pursued? Was there some major consequence of the target being stolen? Link to DM-Nastics Segment #13

Moshe "Whispers" Delitar is a human wizard of dubious fashion taste and crass humor, but one of the best illusionists ever to lend his skills to Encriss' numerous, illicit enterprises. He's a middle aged man with a bald pate and twinkling blue eyes, and affects an air of derision toward the suckers of the world out there trying to make an honest living, especially fellow spellcasters. He earned his nickname for the various sleights he mutters in their presence. When he's not using magic to run a con or outright burglarize a place, he enjoys an easy life of relative anonymity and quiet hedonism in the city. 5a) Guard personnel type 1: Whangdoodles! The owner of the target object ordered a fleet of Whangdoodles as a security upgrade several years ago. Moshe bought a few of his own and has been studying them the last couple weeks at Diemmich Encriss' request. He devised a minor magical item infused with illusion magic that will trick the Whangdoodles into recognizing any spoken word as its command password.

No one seems to be into this one. I skipped ahead to 5) because I wanted to give others a chance to pitch in, but here's 1) to give it a proper start...
1) The Tear of Aldrezal, the single largest cut diamond in the world. Aside from disabling the Whangdoodles, Moshe is expected to use his illusion magic to disguise the diamond after the team has exfiltrated the job site.

Just listened to the episode. Squeak 'da Squeak: Squeak is a half crazed sorcerer, auburn furred Mouseling. When he was just five years old he realized he had an affinity to the elements, specifically to things that go boom. Though his physical strength might be nothing to boast of, this rough mousling loves sending all his creative energy into large, fire, horrific explosions that, in his mind, has "blown the very gates of hell straight toward heaven". He got his nickname ('da Squeak) from a poor farmer who last saw the mouse practicing his fiery bombs on his potatoes and apparently Squeak Squeaks when he blows anything up.
4) The Vault is stored in a dwarven stronghold. The building itself is an extremely well guarded mineshaft that leads downward into the vault and opens onto a Dwarven labyrinth built with the help of minotaurs. Squeak was brought up in the woods beside the Dwarven stronghold and was rumored, when he was just a babe, to have caved in the entrance to the stronghold with his mighty spells...
5b) Guard type II: The Dwarves (yet again) delved too deep into the heart of the mines and chanced upon an evil breeding ground of Nothics. Now they have an extra security measure... completely by accident...

Demo Expert: Brumbur A battle scarred, one eyed dwarf never seen without his sooty tobac pipe clenched tight behind a grizzled beard. A veteran of many wars, Brumbur is a wizard (well, technically a rogue) when it comes to all manner of things that go BOOM.
1) The Target: A heavily guarded scroll which is the only copy of the secret recipe for Berden's Bombastic Brew, an ale legendary for it's smooth taste and incendiary results.
3) The Approach: Tunnel in straight from above, bypassing traps and blowing the lid off the safe (drill small hole, fill it with water from Decanter of Endless Water (DMG161), detonate small charge in water and duck!)

Ronan McShane is a 70 year old human that has forgotten more battles than most people will see in their lifetime. While he moves with a slow purpose and looks half asleep he has an air of someone not to be trifled with. He has worked for Diemmich Encriss for as long as anyone can remember and will try and keep the mission on track despite the loose "glass" canons (Moshe and Squeak).
3) It is of course through their magic that the team will enter the mineshaft with little to no equipment. Their spells will also be the way by which they will shield themselves from the prying minds of the Nothics. When push comes to shove though Ronan will spill as much blood as needed without a moments hesitation.

Yep it sure is... especially when (as Joatmoniac pointed out) half your team are explosive experts. Some great heists just need to go out with a bang.

With the addition of a character with "Mc" in his name, the heist is sure to be super sweet!
Seriously, look at the cast of characters in a bunch of heist movies. There's usually a McX in there somewhere.
