Hi, I've been binging most of the DMB podcast for the last month so I finally took the plunge to join the forums. I work in agriculture, as a seed analyst (not certified yet, just in training) at a seed testing lab. I'm an aspiring DM; I haven't had the chance yet but I'm working on setting up a game for my boyfriend and some friends when life will allow us. Currently working on building my own world, along with potentially making a full herbal index for my world. I look forward to take part of the DM Nastics.

Greetings!
Great to have you! I'm Slythytoves, and I do my best to keep things tidy around the forums.
I LOVE world building, so I'm happy to banter about ideas and concepts as they occur!
Have you played much D&D yet?

Greetings! Great to have you! I'm Slythytoves, and I do my best to keep things tidy around the forums. I LOVE world building, so I'm happy to banter about ideas and concepts as they occur! Have you played much D&D yet? Hello Slythytoves, I actually have only played a little as I moved away from my childhood friend group when they got into TTRPGs. I've played a demo campaign with my boyfriend with his brother being our DM. It only lasted one session. Then I tried playing with my boyfriend, his brother and one of my boyfriend's friend (the friend was the DM) but sadly we couldn't get past two sessions due to issues between characters and letting some life things that happening in 2020 overtake anytime we could have played further. My boyfriend and I being basically new players didn't know how to talk about our problems we were experiencing with the brother's character to to brother directly. The brother has played and even DMed for years, and is a min-maxer and instigator. And the running DM didn't really like confrontation and if the DM did voice our concerns to the brother after the first session it fell on deaf ears; so in the second session after the brother's character knocked out my boyfriend's character then derailed what my boyfriend's character was trying to do it left a bad taste in our mouths and continuing the campaign became undesirable for my boyfriend and I. So we set it aside and recently listening to actual play podcasts has renewed my desire to play, the best way to get something done is doing it yourself, so I decided I would learn how to DM. After listening to the DMB I learned a lot about what went wrong for that campaign and I know how to potentially avoid this happening to my table when I DM.

Well, we're glad you've arrived, then!
I'm sorry for the bad run-ins, that's always going to be rough. Finding the right group can take time, but when you do? Absolutely sublime!
The podcast is an absolute goldmine for any and all DM, but honestly, the best way to be a good DM is to practice. The DM-nastics are a great way to get your mind really working and inventing on the fly, as well as a brilliant source of inspiration and good ideas.
