Last night I had a bad session.
I am a bi-weekly DM which normally gives me a week between to prep for the upcoming session, but with Easter around the corner I thought I could do back to back games with limited prep.
I ended up floundering with NPCs, a scene that was meant to be dramatic came across as railroady due to my delivery, and I killed off one of my favorite NPCs due to a dear in the headlights moment.
In spite of all my failures and internalized frustrations my players smiled and laughed throughout the night and left the table looking forward to the next session.
The reason I’m sharing my failure is to remind all you DMs out there that A) every single DM has bad nights every once in a while. It just happens. B) It is rarely as bad as you think it is. The players generally just want a few laughs and to hang out with friends. So just dust off, learn, and DM on.

Well said, As long as there is plenty of laughter at the table it has gone really well. Very reassuring to hear of other DM's "bad sessions" so we know it isn't just us
