I just rewatched the Matrix, and usually with anything and everything I watch I ask "How can I turn this into a DnD campaign?"
And then it hit me. Instead of Machines, what if the Matrix was run by Mind Flayers?
The victims would be kept in cocoon like pods, with a tentacle wrapped around their heads. The tentacle would connect to a central brain. While connected to the brain, and subsequently into the "Flay"trix, the victims brain secrets a juice that is absolutely un-resistible to the Mind Flayers. Maybe this brain juice increases their psionic power. Whole colonies of dwarves, orcs, elves, humans, etc etc are plugged into these brains.
I was also thinking, maybe the "Flay"trix is different per race. A Dwarf's "Flay"trix would be mining in the mountains, delving ever deeper, while an Orc's "Flay"trix would be a never ending field of battle.
Now, how would our PCs jack into the "Flay"trix to free the minds of the people. Well you would need another Psionic user of some sort to hi jack a tentacle. I'm open to ideas on that one. It could be that the "Flay"trix is actually broadcasted on a different plane of reality and our PCs need to travel to one.
As for a plot line, I would have the opening sessions be my players being freed/rescued from their own Flaytrix. They then are told of a prophecy where they need to free a certain amount of each race, and then lead a revolution on the main brain. This would give our PC's a chance to visit all the different Flaytrix's of the races, each one posing different puzzles and problems.
Let me know what you think, and keep on adding epic Flaytrix ideas!

The way that I see it, necromancers would be of immeasurable value to the rebellions: a single necromancer would be a massive force multiplier in the form of mindless undead which have the benefit of immunity to the stunning blast ability.
So you could also run a sequel campaign with the resistance necromancers being the new ruling class.

Awesome ideas!
So with that, I would make the "Ones" in each Flaytrix have necromancer powers once they were freed. They would have some innate ability to raise the dead of their own kind. Once you have freed enough "Ones", you would have to head to where the Mind Flayers dispose of the dead.
I was also trying to figure out how to make agents work. Like your in the Dwarven Flaytrix, trying to free the "One" and all of a sudden the dwarf beside him turns into a Mind Flayer and starts attacking you.
Also, in the Flaytrix...if you make a proper Will or Wisdom save, you can bend the rules of the Flaytrix. Like long jump, dodge arrows...pretty much gain levels of the Monk class I guess.

so would the pods all be contained in a gigantic mind flayer compound? maybe its floating in the middle of the astral sea somewhere, and the player are rescued by a small force of flayer-hating gith, and they are the ones wanting to start a revolution, seeing how the gith were once a slave race to the mind flayers, and now they are hungry for their destruction.
