First time posting to the forums! So I've been working on a politically driven campaign and need ideas for driving tension.
The players start the campaign washed ashore on an island being the only survivors of a ship wreck. The island as they eventually will discover is inhabited by two factions of Minotaur separated by a treacherous, but narrow, stretch of jungle. The factions are differentiated by the labyrinths they walk.
The Stonewalkers The Stonewalkers use the classic stone labyrinth and believe that walking the path of the labyrinth is a form of meditation fueled by the spirits of those who walked before them. The Stonewalkers think that the Leafgrowers are fickle and whimsical.
The Leafgrowers The Leafgrowers grow hedge mazes and believe that to properly achieve enlightenment they must constantly challenge themselves with new mazes to walk. The Leafgrowers think that the Stonewalkers are stubborn and too set in their ways.
This is where I need ideas. What events could take place that could draw the PCs into a conflict between the two factions? My players tend to like RP a bit more than combat, but a healthy balance of the two is what I'm aiming for.

First thing that comes to mind is starting them in the thin strip in between. Then let them choose if they enter the stone maze or hedge maze, giving them their intro to the conflict thru the side they chose eye's. They pick Stonewalkers, aim to make them sympathetic to whichever side they choose UNTIL they have exposure to the other side.
Edit: welcome to the forums!!!

Just to elaborate on this idea I would not only make it sympathetic to the side they chose I would also villainize the other faction according to whichever side they are with. Then maybe they get isolated and that results in meeting the other side to judge for themselves.
