Hi Block Party, A small preamble, I typically DM once a month a local community center, mostly one-shots for kids anywhere from 10-14 years old. About a month or so ago they got a group together and said they wanted to run a campaign rather than a one-shot, I was completely stoked so I obliged. I wrote a campaign based on the Quest for Glory series which seemed a simple enough campaign for newbies, I thought it would be a really rad idea to actually give the party certain books (more like pamphlets) that they found, since many of them have very little experience with RPGs or some pretty common principles for more experienced roleplayers such as basic information seeking principles or party survival tactics. I decided to write the adventuring guide from the perspective of a previous character I had run that they had all heard about out of game. I mean for it to be a beginner's guide to adventuring and staying alive while doing it. What I have so far for it is a foreword from the author and that's about it and a few graphics I thought would be cool to work in. The other "book" is basically a monster manual from a previous adventurer's perspective and gives them the complete ins and outs of the limited monsters they could encounter in random encounters without giving away stat blocks, this idea is a lot more fleshed out, pun intended. My question to you guys is what would you put in an adventuring guide for a party of new adventurers? But absolutely all feedback is welcome 1,2,3...Adventuring!

I love all of this so, so much! It would make me extremely giddy as a player to receive something like this from a DM as it has all sorts of in game flavor with just a hint of meta-ness to it. So amazing!
With that out of the way, some topics that come to mind would be, in no particular order: Adventuring With Friends (the benefits of companions and a well rounded group) Don't Forget Your Potions (how health/resistance potions could be the difference between life and death) Gold is Worth More Than Just Being Shiny (what it can buy to help you survive, like better weapons, armor, potions, etc.) Know Your Berries! (tips on the importance of foraging while traveling through the wilderness for extended periods) It's OK to Retreat (basic strategies for combat to help a group survive, maybe?)
I'm sure I could come up with more topics, but I'll leave it there for now. Excellent work so far!

Thanks, I'm a big fan of the tangible props making a world really jump out at you. These are all great topics, Adventuring with Friends is a solid chapter for sure. I had things like World of Warcraft to teach me what tanks do but that will be an excellent way to break down those mechanics. Keep them coming!

A really helpful chapter would be Magic Items and You (Describing attunement, the three item limit, and why you can't benefit from wearing two Rings of Protection +1 at the same time). I still have trouble with that concept sometimes. More to come as time at work permits!

I'm about halfway through the updates and I am absolutely loving it. Great work! This would be an amazing thing for older kids to read to understand the basic ins and outs of a traditional role-playing system like D&D. It really does have an authentic feel to it. It just seems fairly obvious that, in a world filled with the adventuring types, a book like this would exist.
