I'm trying to create my world map for my world of Telandria so I don't have to rely on my chicken scratches, but it's currently looking cartoony and flat with my lack of artistic talent. Currently, I'm using photoshop, so if there are any good tutorials that anyone knows to make things look more realistic, that'd be very helpful. Also, if there's any good world map building software out there, that would also be helpful. For instance, does something like Google Earth handle custom world maps? I do programming for a living, so I may not shy away from something that may require a bit of custom code to get working, too. For now, I leave you with my current progress on the world... please be gentle. lol: Telandria World Map Progress

I would highly suggest inkarnate. It's free and moderately customizable

For professional map evaluations, you might want to consider joining The Cartographers Guild. They are a great helpful and knowledgeable community. They have tutorials for different visual styles of maps in various scales, easy to follow and very good looking. Cartographers Guild site
