Hey guys! So I've only played dungeons and dragons a few times over the past 5 years but I got obsessed with it. Unfortunately the people I played with were twice my age, lived far away, and never took the game seriously so I decided to write my own campaign and invite a bunch of friends over to play and the response I got was overwhelming. I've never dm'ed before and I might have 10+ players for my first game. And 100%of those people have never played a tabletop rpg before. I'm struggling with the fact that I might have 10รท players and I was wondering, how would you guys deal with large groups? I've also created my own large scale war mechanic and I was wondering if you had any tips on that... I'm also planning on having an evil campaign. One that I've spent months building and playing evil characters right can be hard... im FREAKING out! Any tips would be IMMENSELY appreciated!!!

Split the party... If you can, just run 2 groups of 5 players. It is almost impossible to keep all of your players engaged in a large party. It just really isn't worth the effort. Also want to run an evil campaign? Ask which players would be interested and run a good and an evil game.
It is possible that some of your players will atrophy out, then you could merge the 2 groups into a single game.

My group varies widely from week to week due to the general issues of being an adult. We play with as little as 3 players and have had as many as 7 or 8 at one point, when the group is low on numbers there is normally an NPC or two that can help them but players get attached to these and seek them out even when they have a large party causing an issue I think you would have playing with a large group, how to balance the battles, I've still not mastered the balancing of fights and had huge issues with it particularly with the larger groups, maybe someone could give you (and me) some advice on this?
Also I'd like to agree with the others about running two campaigns if possible, that way your players would enjoy what's happening and you can build suspense for each session through each group being able to talk about what they got up to and how much fun it was :-)
