Hi!
I'm new to the boards, but I've been listening to the podcast for a while now.
Anyway, I've got a story frame that I wanted to share and maybe get some help fleshing out. Here it goes:
I've got 3 players. I plan to have them play 2 characters each - a merchant, and an adventurer.
Storyline: The merchants are behind in shipping their wares to market. So, they've decided to ship their stuff down the Blackmoan River. It's a bold step that a few people try each year, but no one has ever succeeded. The boats and their passengers just disappear. Most believe the river to be cursed. There are rumors of cursed lights that might help, but right also harm. Whispers of blighted swamp monsters, vengeful spirits of past river navigators, and creatures too alien to comprehend. Few people make it past the River Rock Inn. Most just stop there and take the Commerce Road. The merchants plan to bypass the road by staying on the river and navigating the cursed miles between River Rock and the Market at Turnermore Falls.
Backstory: The river has been controlled by a beholder for more than a half century. He is served by a huge tribe of Bullywugs, giant frogs, and other swampland creatures. Ten years into it's reign, a paladin sought to end the threat of this aberration. He failed. It was a failure he had trouble accepting, and forsaking his vows to destroy the evil on the river he lost not not only his honor, but also his life. A Death Knight was born. But the curse went beyond just turning him into an agent of evil. The former paladin was also unable to cross the river to the side where the beholder and bullywugs make their lair.
Now, one side of the river is controlled by the beholder and his tribe, and the other by the Death Knight and his undead minions, with the masterminds battling each other on-and-off through proxies. This is the environment the PCs will enter.
I'll post the beats I have so far later on.
