Ok so here is what Im talking about.
One of my main problems with being a DM, from the moment I sat down to do it when I was 14 to now while I sit here and type this, is that i give too much to my players. Not in way of XP, they earn every point they get. No, what im talking about is Magical Equipment.
Now when I first started DMing it was forgivable. My world was EXTREMELY high fantasy at the time and magic was literally everywhere. Just about every commoner had a magic ring of some type. Over the years I changed and made magic harder to find, but not by much. Im 25 years old now and i still have a problem giving too much magic to my players, while they enjoy it, I end up with 5 toolboxes full of equipment sitting at my table.
Having said that, when I rebooted my world to fit 5e and become completely fresh, I had a plan, a devious plan my precious....
My players know I give, they know I love giving, and know I am really easy to talk into it. So I have let them do so for 2 campaigns and now into the 3rd in my world(they are currently lvl 4), even to the point of handing them the DMG and telling them "Magic equipment, anything up to Rare". But here pretty soon im going to pull the trigger on my players, something they will not expect from me in a million years....
I am making magic disappear from most equipment in the game.
There will be a great depression of all my magic shop owners from all my towns as the trade, stocks, and businesses plummet into the ground as the items on their shelves becomes basically worthless. All Enchanting guilds will suddenly fall into ruin as they compete for leadership in the confusion and end up with nothing in the end.
I will roll on a percentage dice for every characters magical weapon, live at the table, with a small percentage of survival. If it survives, it keeps all of its qualities. Later on I am planning on having the gods retreat from the world for a couple hundred years so this is somewhat the beginning of that. At that point Clerics will basically become worthless as well. The next 100-500 years of history of my world are gonna be one hell of a ride.
I would say more about why but my players sometimes like to read these posts lol.
So what do you guys think? Evil.....or just really sly?
