It could only happen to a gnome... Our wizard, a gnome by the pseudonym of Professor Gnomebody, lost his beard in a bet (his backstory, I didn't ask) and has been terribly self-conscious of it ever since to the point of wearing a fake beard at all times.
So our party was in Evernight and was approached by a necromancer for a favor: she wanted to turn one of their body parts undead for a while to see how well it got along with the rest of their body. The party tried to be clever and volunteered the gnome's (false) beard. This was too weird for me to pass up, so bada-bing, there's an undead, fake beard strapped to the gnome's face. At the time I did not know the consequences of this, but informed the cleric that they could definitely sense the gnome's beard was in fact, undead.
The next session the party meets another necromancer, this one skilled in the art of grafting undead body parts onto undead creatures, but he'd be willing to give it a shot on a living creature for a price. The party considered getting an extra arm or two, but then offered the gnome with the undead beard. The necromancer was so taken with this oddity that he agreed to do the graft for free. A few snips and stitches later, and the gnome had a chin full of undead hair-plugs.
Now I informed the player that this, umm, addition, would act like a cursed magic item: it would do something good for them, but have some kind of drawback as well. I'm trying to now, after the fact, create some stats for this thing and I'd love some input from the forum. Is this too good? Too bad? Too complicated?

Undead beard: Cursed Magic Item
- Symbiotic: If the undead beard is bonded to the body, it does not consume an attunement slot.
- Necrotic adaptation: the host or wearer is resistant to Necrotic damage.
- False Life: Once per day, the beard allows its host to use an action to cast False Life on itself as a 2nd level spell, without expending a spell slot or requiring components.
- Parasitic: After the duration of False Life ends, the beard drains vitality and mental energy from the host. The host has disadvantage on all Constitution and Intelligence checks and saving throws until they take a long or short rest.
- Turn Undead susceptibility: A creature attuned to or bonded to the undead beard must make a wisdom saving throw whenever it would be subjected to the effects of Turn Undead. It makes this check with advantage.
- Cursed: if worn as an item, the beard requires Remove Curse to break its attunement to the wearer. If if is bonded to its host, it can only be shaved off with a silver blade, which destroys the beard. The host will regrow the undead beard in 1d8+4 days unless the shaved host has Remove Curse cast upon it. The beard and curse can be removed intact from the host with a Greater Restoration or Wish spell
