Hey all,
I wanna preface this by saying that I have heard that there is no real measure of how long it takes to play. That said, I wonder if my games are running too slow. My newly minted group began the Starter Set a little over a year ago now, since then we've gamed every other week and at about 3+ hours per game we've clocked in 31 games.
And we are only just now breaking into 5th level and haven't even gone anywhere near the titled mines (as a matter a fact they turned the situation at OOW into a bigger deal and have now summoned outside help to aid them in cleansing the area... but first they want to deal with the Gnothic infestation they stumbled upon earlier than expected, like they always do 9_9 )
Point being that I'm always hearing of games breaking apart (because life, the universe, and everything getting in the way) or fizzling away, or DM burnout before the stories come to a completion. As is, if I'm honest, I am getting kind of tired of this storyline and want to start a new game.* Inbetween learning the rules, dusting off the DM skills, and the group growing from three to six, I want to begin again with the players making their characters together instead of seperatly so there can be more group cohesion.
Basicaly there's three plot points/dungeons that they want to hit:
1. Gnothics under Tresendar Manor
2. Necromancer and the ruins under the tower at Old Owl Well
3. Wave Echo Cave itself
And at the rate we play, I don't think we'll be done by next June.
Does anyone have any hints or tricks to help speed up gameplay (short of pointing them in the direction myself)?
Or am I worrying over nothing and should let my group play at their own pace?
*equally honest, I feel bad for feeling this way
