Hey all, so If you have read my other post about the Dûrnossë or any of my worldbuilding thread you know one of the features of my world are these portals/gate that lead to my versions of the shadowfell and feywild. And that early in the history of my world some people went through the evil gate into the shadowfell and were transformed into dark beings very similar to ringwraith. Well I have been working on that idea and the stories I have based around it and needed a lesser form of these beings to fill out the ranks of darkness and terror. So I reverse engineered the Will-o-Wisp from the 5e MM to create my cutely terrifying Dûrind, these little buggers are basically anti-light will-o-wisps. I have attached a pdf of their stat block and description and would love a little bit of feedback on the idea. Thanks a ton for any and all responses. Dûrind PDF

I like it. Only had time for a cursory look, but will give it a more in depth go tonight. Seems like you could set up some super creepy scenarios with them. Instead of a light off in the distance you see a dark spot that somehow stands out against the night, and it is moving closer and closer, and doesn't seem to be the only one ...

Exactly the creepy kinda vibe I want them to have, also I imagine you see them briefly in you peripheral vision and when you turn it just seems like the night surroundings, but when you turn away again it moves closers.

I really really like it now that I have read over it again. It is a great adaptation of the Will-o-wisp. The only thing that I can think of that could potentially use an addition/change would be the addition of the Obscured rules from the PHB to the Dûrind's Variable Obscuration ability. Still super creepy and I love it!

Do you know what page the Obscured rules are on in the PHB?

Curses! I thought I put that in there because I was looking at it when I made my post, haha. They are on pg. 183 with the other light based rules.

Ok so thanks for the pg number, also I have read up on the Vision and Light section and made some minor tweaks. Here is the PDF with new info added. PDF Durind version 2.
Now if you dont want to download or read through it to see what I did. Here is the change. The area in which light is consumed turns into darkness and is heavily obscured. The area in which lights have dimmed is considered lightly obscured. I added that info to the Variable Obscuration section. Please hook me up with some feedback as to if thats what you considered or would you do more? Thanks.

That is very similar to what I was thinking. It makes them even creepier and I love it. What if you work up and could barely see? Or if they were headed towards you and it was too late before you realized what was happening, muwahaha!

Or if they were headed towards you and it was too late before you realized what was happening, muwahaha! Straight up and it makes the Dûrnossë even more of a terror. Because the Dûrind form in a place where a Dûrnossë has died. So why fight them and kill them just to spawn another terror. Seems easier just to flee in terror and try to live somewhere out of their reach.
