I am using 5e and I am a first time DM. As soon as my group finishes the 5e Starter Set we are going to move to my world. My biggest inspiration for my world is Tolkien's writing, and the Legend of Drizzt books. I will start! My worlds is still in its infancy. I have one city called Novudun that is "fully" fleshed out. It is nestled down on the coast in the Bay of Pearls. I have drawn a map but it only includes Novudun and the surrounding 25-ish miles. I have a rough timeline of my world that leads from Creation to the Age of Heroes. My world has a 10 month calendar, each month consists of 4 weeks and each week is 9 days long. There are 2 moons in my world. My pantheon is very loose at this moment, as I am struggling with how many gods to have, which gods to borrow or alter from existing materials, and things pertaining to the gods. -------I have spent the past two weeks and established a lot more things pertaining to my world. The pantheon is now set and the world has been named. I have general ideas for how the various playable races behave as a culture, and will soon be adding locations to my world map for these races based on the overall timeline of my world. I have posted lots of new links below so feel free to read them and hook me up with some feedback.------- Links to my Google docs. DM Mitch and Chris were talking on tonight's podcast about your idea to use an early-history campaign where the players are all anthro races, and described in a new campaign later in the history as being gods. Are you still using that? It's a very awesome idea!

O for sure, I love that idea and think giving that gift to the players is something really fun so I for sure plan to use it. I will try to post more about the idea and for sure post stories when it actually goes down!

I couldn't find your post but i remember the question being asked about barring races and if i remember that you had a player that wanted to be a half orc (i really hope i am remembering this right) but a way you can satisfy this player is with a "tool" that i use often to mainly further tell a story on a larger scale. What i like to do is wait until about 4-5 sessions in to the game (keep in mind my short campaigns typically run around 6 months with weekly sessions) at this point i will hand my players new character sheets and have them create characters that are members of the opposition or part of what ever their main characters are fighting against. then for one night every 4-5 sessions they get to see the world through the eyes of the other side, so perhaps using this your group can play as a group of orcs for a night every few weeks. And as a bonus you get to tell a story on a broader scale. hope this helps, and as always #Longlivethebeard!

Hey all, I am working on my timeline and have just about nailed down my pantheon. So I figured I would post a link to my most up-to-date version of that info. Would love to get some feedback/question about it to help me get it completed. The Pantheon structure has a single ultimate being who creates everything. He creates himself four helpers that keep things running, and those four in turn create eight addition lesser helpers. These eight are the pantheon the players will be interacting with, worshipping etc. Here is a link to the timeline so far. Note it is incomplete. I have added a link to some info I wrote down about the pantheon. Will add more to it later. Timeline

Looks good. The numerous names required much backtracking to make sense of who was doing what, exactly. The difficulty was mostly in my unfamiliarity with how to pronounce them, so I didn't have a phonetic memory of any proper names going from event to event.
Other than that, it looks like a solid framework to tell stories. I liked how dragons were dormant for much of history, and are a relatively new face on the planet. The otherworldly origin of monstrous humanoids was a good spin, too. Kind of reminded me of the original Warcraft RTS games. I look forward to seeing more!

Awesome I pretty much always use Tolkien pronunciation rules, so just apply what you find in his works to my world. Many of the names are either words from Quenya or a similar branch of elvish or words from Icelandic languages/sagas. I like holding off on the dragons too. Dont want people to be expecting dragons to be around ever bend and under every rock. I have gone through and added in green comment text for names and places giving them their translations and hopefully making it a little easier to keep track of. Also made some grammar and spelling errors. Also I have translated/ created names for all the gods from their original names given by Smiður to their names given by various races and regions. This was a ton of fun and I am incorporating a lot of names from the PHB. Pantheon Names Translated
