So if anyone has read my campaign idea pist entitled "Four Kings" they have seen that I'm hopingbto come up with an item that utilizes twelve wooden tokens of the zodiac. The items themselves might each have some effect but I havn't had any thoughts I've liked so far. Also when they are gathered together I want them to be able to be added to an object of some sort that gives its user some cool abilities. Most likely this item will go to the rightful king of a nation who is an NPC but the players will have interactions with it so I'm not sure where to go with it.
That said the king is a bard so it could be an instrument. However, it could just as easily be a sword. Also, I may want the king to be able to share a bit of his power with the Players. Perhaps the item comes with a set of 12 rings which he can hive to his allies and advisors.
Any help or thoughts are welcome. Thanks.

How about an infinity gauntlet? Just kidding. There are so many different ideas that could fit here: a crown, armor, goblet, accordion. My personal favorite would be from the movie: The Dark is Rising. In the movie this kid has to collect 7 or 8 stones, put them in a special belt he has and then (once all were collected) the stones gave him superpowers that could defeat the Dark which was Rising (go figure). I think it would be awesome if you just hooked the twelve of them to a belt and the wearer of the belt got abilities. You could also make it so that the gems fit together to make some sort of weapon or piece of armor.

After some thinking I decided I liked the belt idea. The wooden tokens change in appearance when placed on the belt to be gems around each of which sits a ring. Each ring has different attributes that correspond to the zodiac it represents. The belt wearer doesn't use the rings but gifts one to each of his 12 closest allies. The character who is getting the belt is an NPC bard, so I'm going to have him use it as a strap for his lute. It may augment his casting or something else I haven't decided yet. WHat do you think?

I, of course, thinks it is a great idea. I really do enjoy using the zodiac as some powerful items. Final Fantasy Tactics: War of the Lions is the single greatest video game storyline ever written and you can draw some ideas from it, since it uses twelve zodiac stones. In the story these stones were originally thought of as good powerful items... until evil politicians used them to summon demons from the underworld. I would definitely recommend looking at the story, I personally think it could give Game of Thrones a run for its money.
