so im a first time DM, but we have been playing my campaign for a couple months every other week. we had a bit of a long break due to my wedding last month. we played friday and i just pulled everything from my ass... it worked, but i wasn't proud of it. i need some help
the basic concept is that the group had started off tasked to take a box (think hell raiser) from a town on the other side of the realm, to the kinds nobles in the main city. upon arrival, they meet a princes who's parents have gone missing. (i use the princes almost exactly the way she's used in crib juice) now, the kicker is that the king and queens highest noble actually turned out to be a lich harnessing the dark powers of chemosh through ritual and sacrifice. things started get trickle in the realm. a person dies and strangely comes back to "life" here or there... and eventually entire towns become "infected" they encounter the lich and have gone chasing clues as to where he in an effort to find the king and queen. its a very very basic run down of the idea. the back story of the world is that 50 or so years back a great war between orcs and men killed off 2/3 of the world, and if it weren't for elves (who are basically a legend due to never coming down to the land of men) the humans would have all but been wiped out by marauding orcs who raped and pillaged as they cleared town after town.
so they're at a point where they are going to be fighting a werewolf who happens to be the brother of the high paladin leader of the church of mishakal. I've thrown a few different baddies at them, you're basic list of horror and undead... they're lvl 8 as of last session. I'm at a loss for ideas. of course theres way more to the campaign but I'm looking for ideas to give a good plot twist or even keep them busy. a few of them are very experienced players and DM's them selves. they're a great group. very understanding and helpful. i want to give them a "holy ****" moment, but I'm drawing blanks. I've got two weeks to come up with something juicy for next session... thoughts?
players include
human paladin
dragnborn ranger
1/2 elf bard
1/2 elf rogue
deep gnome cleric
1/2 orc fighter
1/2 elf sorcerer
i could post the prologue i wrote to start the campaign if it might help with the world back story.
