Birds of the family of the Corvidae family are among the most intelligent non-humanoid animals on earth, capable of problem solving, mirror recognition, and other mental capabilities previously thought exclusive to humans, chimps and dolphins. Yet, the raven in the MM does not reflect this aspect at all with a mere intelligence of 2! As a scientist and an animal lover, I cannot let it stand!
My question to you all is: What would be an appropriate intelligence score for these otherwise magnificent birds (Hint: apes have a 6)?

I wonder if it is just legacy from when they were originally added to the game. I also wonder if there is the mechanical reason of having it be 2 for spells and the like. I would bump it up to 5 or 6 like the chimp.

I was totally going to have a raven familiar for my wizard NPC. When I saw that intelligence I let out a little gasp of disbelief.

3 is the lowest intelligence of a human. How would you rate the intelligence of a Raven to a lower intelligence human? Honest question I'm not being snarky. I'm thinking about this myself.

I would consider a character with an intelligence of 3 someone with severe intellectual disability (IQ of 20-34), with severely limited speech, but some capability to learn simple routines or basic self care. Such a human being would require daily supervision for more complicated self-care activities and is unlikely to live independently.
I would rule an average raven to be much smarter than a severely intellectually disabled human.
