So one of the things I love about the DM's Block is how serious they take their games yet are able to put fun, ridiculous spins on the staple traditions of D&D. One of my favorites is THE FOOD MAGE.
I wanted to give a brief (if I can) outline of how I plan to use it in my campaign. I haven't chosen a level to use this at, I think I'll throw it in when things seem to be getting stale and routine.
This arc of the campaign will start out as the party stops by 1 of their favorite taverns or restaurants in the capital city. There will be a new cook there. A small forest Gnome named Gnocchin. Gnochinn will poison the half-orc of the group through the food or drink they order.
After some roll play or perception they will hopefully come to suspect the Gnome. He will lead them on a chase down into a tunnel through the food locker in the back. The party will encounter a horde of rats, a small room full of living mushrooms (this is where the Gnome gets his poisons) and finally a food monster.
Eventually they will reach Gnocchin in his lab. I have multiple oUT comes planned. If the party choses diplomacy they will learn the Gnomes story and possibly chose to aid him. Otherwise they will fight learning his story after from his journal.
Gnocchin was a member of a small tribe of forest Gnomes that worship Pisghettius the Great Chef, patron God of food, drink and merriment. There was a neighboring tribe of half-orcs who worship Ramsas the Charred patron God of food, drink and gluttony. Once a year the 2 tribes would come together for a festival where they would have a cook off and grand celebration of their love for food.
Last year when the Half-orcs arrived they said Ramsas was angry at the Gnomes and ordered that they be slain. The Gnomes were slaughtered and as Gnocchin's grandfather lay dying he gives him a crystal ladle. This ladle give Gnocchin great power. He makes a vow to destroy the half-orc tribe.
If they chose to join him in his quest they will travel to face the half-orc tribe. If they kill him and the caster of the group takes up the crystal ladle he will be visited by Pisghettius and urged to continue with the quest.
Upon finding the half-orc tribe they will face Rachala-Ra the tribes leader. Battle ensues.
After the smoke clears both Pisghettius and Ramsas will appear. We will have some roll play and eventually the 2 will bust out in horrendous screeching laughter. The 2 forms will merge leaving the form of ( haven't figured out which god, was going to use Olidammara but I'm not sure that his form of trickery involves killing. Any suggestions here all welcome.)
I will use this ending as a link to other possible arcs.
Here are some of the spell changes I came up with.
Magic meatballs- magic missile
Meat shield- Shield
Large flanks of meat surround him
Spectral waiter- unseen servant
Spice spray?- color spray
Face full of spices would blind
Utensil cloud- cloud of daggers
Slashing or bludgeoning dmg
Gelato swarm- snowball swarm
Ice Cream swarm? Meh
Noodle trick- rope trick
Cheese trap- Web
MaranaBlast-burninghands/scorching ray
Still working on more.
Anyway that was not brief. Thanks for reading and for any suggestions you might have.
