Happy DM/GM Day from the DMB to all of you our loyal listeners! We realize that the job of a DM can sometimes be without it's deserved appreciation, and we just wanted to say...we appreciate all of you! Keep your heads held high, your players in constant fear, and Above All...Keep on Dungeon Mastering!

Thanks guys, keep up your own good work as well!
I also feel compelled to say that, while a little appreciation never hurts, I don't DM to be appreciated.
I DM as an excuse to get together with my friends. I DM as an excuse to worldbuild. I DM as a creative storytelling outlet. I DM to have fun!
Most of all, I DM because I love it! If, for any reason, you are a DM and you don't love it, change what you are doing. Start a new campaign, pass the torch and take a break, change venues, whatever it takes to make it fun and joyful. This is a game after all, if its not fun, why play it?
That being said, this forum is an amazing place and y'all are an amazing community. This is a place where we can share our ideas, geek out over each other's cool creations, take inspiration from one another's inspirations, get help when we are stuck and generally share and appreciate each other's DM craft.
I don't know about y'all, but I've never had that before.
So thank you DM Mitch and DM Chris for creating this forum and this community! It is much appreciated.

Lately I've been both on the player and DM side of the table, and find that I prefer DMing. If it's 'hard work,' then it's a labor of love. Like any skill, it gets easier the more you practice. One of the biggest reasons I prefer DMing is that I'm always engaged with the game. I never have to wait for the other four players to take their turn in combat, I never have to sit still and be quiet while the ranger is scouting ahead, etc. I also get to create new characters constantly (NPCs), while the players are generally stuck with one. Additionally, it's a sort of administrator role, and I like being in charge of stuff. I could go on listing reasons why I prefer DMing to being player, but like friartook, I'm not in it to be appreciated. The role is its own reward. Anyway, I didn't know GM Appreciation Day even existed til now. Guess I'll have to wait til next year to tell my players to bring me gifts of energy drinks and chips.

I agree with everything friartook has said, and really want to heap praise on DM Mitch and DM Chris for creating a podcast and community that I personally didn't know I was missing in my life. It is a fairly thankless job, but one that reaps so many rewards without someone explicitly saying that they appreciate you. Getting together with a group of friends you have been playing with for over a decade is invaluable, creating stories and memories with those friends can't be beat, and hearing those stories over and over again is amazing.
I think the collaboration is the most beneficial part of the community, because you can rarely involve your players with the creation or prep process. This was there is a group of people who we can share all the behind the scenes work with, and get great ideas, or hone our craft. All around it is a community I hope to be involved in for years to come!

Thanks all for the kind words. I must say, I think the "Im not in it for the appreciation" mentality is the true showing of the calling to be a DM. We do it because we are Story Tellers, and we love it. That being said, being told thanks for what you do, is never harmful, so we wanted to make sure, you all know....we are thankful for what you all do, and continue to do.

I do it because I'm a control freak.
