So this idea is one that me and a fellow DM talked about recently as a possible good campaign for players who have a hard time RPing(it works for other people too).
So essentially the idea behind this campaign is inspired by the animated DnD show. The players are all themselves and are connected by any number of things(real or fake) maybe they(the players) work together at some job, maybe they go to school together, or maybe they all are meeting up to play DnD at the DM's house.
Okay so here is where the story gets a bit more interesting. You as the DM are yourself and really want your players to have a campaign that is entirely unique so you went to the library and looked for inspiration and found a book called something like "Portal to Adventure" so you have yet to open the book yet but it looks cool so you set it on the table where you are playing for aesthetic value.
Now I'm not exactly sure how it would happen but my thought is that as the DM is laying the scene for the campaign(in person and in game) the book begins to glow, floats, rotates rapidly, ect. Followed by everyone at the table being knocked unconscious.
Eventually, the players come to and find that they have become their characters within the campaign. So they are themselves inside of say a halfling body or whatever their character was. This would be a challenge to get used to for a tall person for example because they are in fact themselves.
The quest that was originally set by the DM would be put on the wayside because upon arrival the DM is missing so the players need to locate him to escape ect.
The thing I like about this is that if someone normally has trouble getting into character they have less to focus on. Instead of thinking "How would my Orc Barbarian react to this situation?" They just think "What should I do here"
Any thoughts? I don't think I'm going to do this campaign because I have a huge campaign currently in the works but just thought I would share it before I forgot about it. This campaign also could work for a RP heavy campaign if you take into account the things like changing in size and maybe a charecter is a fighter but the player playing him is not ect.
Edit: Just also had the thought that the players would only know what you managed to tell them before they went unconcious so information gathering would be inportant to find stuff put that their charecters mightve known but they don't.(maybe they don't recognize their charecters brother or they don't know where they put their horse ect.
