I'm going to feel a little guilty listening to another D&D podcast, but I'm definitely intrigued by what they have to offer. And I've been working on basic RP stuff like rifling through pockets and even paladin stick-in-the-mud 'we can't do that!' situations. I had a great night trying to get everyone to NOT be orphans. It's so funny how automatic that is, like no good adventurer can have a happy supportive family or an un-burned idyllic village. I picture the D&D world as being made up of massive graveyards full of parents, and equally large orphanages for all the future PCs.

Link-ception addition from me. F. Wesley Schneider (who is the Managing Editor at Paizo) has a blog where he compiled all of the advice he has given about just about anything he has given advice on. I haven't even begun to tackle the list, but figured I would share it as the things I have looked at have been great. wesschneider.tumblr.com/post/126795575456/last-update-81515over-100-gm-tips-and

Can't remember offhand the last one that had two parents. LOL Every one seems to die in a tragedy. Also, have you gotten to Episode 30 yet? "The Player's Block"? dungeonmasterblock.freeforums.net/thread/195/episode-30-players-block

I've tried getting my players to listen to the Player's Block, but none of them are podcast people. Their loss....

Yeah, it's not bad. Really the $24 annual is basically 3 months for free. I am working in it now, it's a little clunky, but it's brand new, so it is what it is. I really like the look, just not sure if it's ready to justify the costs. So, I want to implement something like this, but I'm having trouble deciding. Has anyone done a compare/contrast on Obsidian Portal's paid version vs. City of Brass? City of Brass looks shinier, but it seems to lack the player access aspect that Obsidian Portal does well (no obvious Wiki, Campaign Forum, Adventure Log equivalent). This is the aspect I find most appealing about using an online tool like this; communication and interaction with players. Having a Wiki where places and NPCs the players have visited can be logged sounds like a really cool resource, as does an Adventure Log to keep track of where they've been and what they've done. Obsidian Portal's paid version is a bit pricier than City of Brass. But CoB seems like its lacking certain vital features. Thoughts? I am about to have to pay to keep using CityofBrass (which I actually like) but I still haven't tried Obsidian Portal. Ugh, struggles!! A year for 20 bucks though, I may just have to drop it to use the site for a year.

Also, Obsidian Portal has a free option. Fewer features, but still useful.

Anyone know of a decent digital map maker specifically for making cities ? Also some tips on how placements and such should (logically) look like I guess I'm old school enough to draw all my maps by mouse in Inkscape. It's an Open Source vector-based image program that's handy for that sort of thing, but it's more than a little time intensive. As for placements, the usual suggestion is to start with the major locations in the city and then start filling in the streets (biggest down to smallest). Then if you're really feeling like it you can fill in the smaller buildings. Street maps of European cities (aka Google Maps) can give a handy analog for how streets might lay out.

See i'd use inkscape or gimp and such, except im kinda bad with drawing, especially when using the pc mouse. I had that thought of using google maps and such to find out but cant really access the images right now (at work that blocks everything ) edit: well found a image that wasnt exactly blocked perso.numericable.fr/parisbal/plans/1550_StVictor.JPG1.bp.blogspot.com/-VT-oQTYKxW0/T0z3Az6X64I/AAAAAAAAApE/x6wDGmgJy7Y/s1600/Panoramic+map+of+Stockholm.pngfrom what I can see is kinda mixed. the city im making right now is a harbour town with sort of castle structures, a kind of tower with surrounding walls and moat and a kinda multi theistic church with a graveyard, plus a council building ( city hall) and should have a fuctioning tunnel system that kinda makes sense. (dem thieves)

I don't see Tribality on that website list! :-) Also, I cannot recommend www.mapsofmastery.com highly enough. Chris West is brilliant.

We all just assume that the entire Block Party is going to Tribality.com at this point. I know I have the RSS feed going straight to my phone so I don't miss anything. Granted sometimes it shows me articles that aren't all the way up yet, or ones that never seem to go up, or maybe under a different name. Some serious inside baseball stuff right there, haha. Also, Chris West is awesome. Fun guy to listen to and he did the inner mapping for the Milenium Falcon for a Star Wars property I can't recall off the top of my head.
