A couple podcasts that are in my regular rotation: www.godsfall.com/ - it's a pretty fleshed out world and they have lots of maps and stuff. Production quality if off the charts. www.dungeonmastered.com/ - These guys are a little more laid back. The value here is that it's a group who are transitioning from AD&D (2e) to 5e, so it's been great to hear them sort of figure out the rules and structures and so forth. It's helped me with the technical components of 5e. These are both playthrough podcasts, not necessarily specifically for DMs, but they've certainly helped me. Thanks for the GIANT list of resources! They'll help a ton!

Another one that just came out after Kickstarter. www.cityofbrass.io/Campaign Management (I think), or maybe going for a Roll20 replacement (Just got in yesterday on trial period). Very clean and nice looking for sure, but it does have a cost on it. Looks like the model is $3 a month, or $24 for a year. Edit: 30 day (no card needed) Trial if you want to check it out.

Wow! These are all great (and 3$ a month is really cheep for that campaign management tool). Now I've got a couple new podcasts to listen to! I'll add two one to the fray: Sneak Attack Podcast: sneakattack.libsyn.com/podcast/size/2 : this must be one of the best Actual Plays I have ever listened to. The players are all great role players and have really interesting characters, the world is home brew and really well done, and the story is amazingly good. I think I've mentioned it before, but now after listening to their seventh episode, I am more than impressed.

Wow! These are all great (and 3$ a month is really cheep for that campaign management tool). Yeah, it's not bad. Really the $24 annual is basically 3 months for free. I am working in it now, it's a little clunky, but it's brand new, so it is what it is. I really like the look, just not sure if it's ready to justify the costs.

So, I want to implement something like this, but I'm having trouble deciding. Has anyone done a compare/contrast on Obsidian Portal's paid version vs. City of Brass? City of Brass looks shinier, but it seems to lack the player access aspect that Obsidian Portal does well (no obvious Wiki, Campaign Forum, Adventure Log equivalent). This is the aspect I find most appealing about using an online tool like this; communication and interaction with players. Having a Wiki where places and NPCs the players have visited can be logged sounds like a really cool resource, as does an Adventure Log to keep track of where they've been and what they've done. Obsidian Portal's paid version is a bit pricier than City of Brass. But CoB seems like its lacking certain vital features. Thoughts?

Take a look at this: Godsfall. Aram posted this when these forums first got up and running, just before he released his first episode. He has credited DM Mitch and DM Chris's podcast as being the final inspiration he needed to jump into podcasting. Godsfall has a lot of fans around here! I don't know if you do the Twitter thing, but Godsfall is pretty active there and very engaged with that community. They also have a forum of their own: Godsfall Forums.

I will have to go check it out and see what's up. I am really looking to test out CityofBrass, as it looks like it could be a pretty cheap Campaign Management tool. I could see myself laying out the information in CoB for either import into Fantasy Grounds, or running a table top session. I really like the web based layout, and as a hobby web designer I really like the look. I am on there as, take a wild guess, DM Kiado. Anyone on CoB resident me or whatever it's called. Just want to check some things out. - Mutliple people working on "District"/World/Stories/etc. - The "Campaign" Features.

Ok, another audio link, this one is out of the box: macaulaylibrary.org/This is the worlds largest and oldest collection of natural sounds. Its pretty specifically animal sounds, and I haven't had a chance to dive into it at all. But if anyone is looking for some weird monster noises, nature is often stranger than fiction.

Does anyone have a resource for helping PCs play their classes? Looking for links I can send them to give them ideas about how to RP their race and class. I've got a lot of ex-video gamers, and some of them are frustrated because they aren't very imaginative. I've tried giving them suggestions, but my creativity well is only so deep. It has been really fun watching them create their character builds and then realize that they have no idea how to play what they've created.

I've got a lot of ex-video gamers, and some of them are frustrated because they aren't very imaginative. I've tried giving them suggestions, but my creativity well is only so deep. It has been really fun watching them create their character builds and then realize that they have no idea how to play what they've created. If they are podcast listeners, point them toward the Stories of the Fifth Age podcast. These guys break down backgrounds, races and classes and give ideas for RP and story hooks for DMs and players. The tone is geared for the DM, but there's plenty of goodness for players in there. The podcast focuses on 5e content exclusively, but its still good stuff for any player or DM. I've been working with my group for well over a year on exactly this issue. There is no easy fix. The guys I play with were all new to tabletop RPGs, but they all love fantasy fiction and RPG video games. They are also my friends, so I can be blunt with them. I've just called a spade a spade over and over again with them. They are finally starting to get the point: We'll all have more fun if use good RP! It got to a point where I had to say, "I have no interest in playing a game where I am a gear vendor and controller of monsters for you to kill. That does nothing for me at all. If you want that, there's dozens of amazing video games you can play. I want STORY!" I've also worked hard to reward good RP in any way I can; through shout-outs, cool story outcomes, material (in game) rewards, inspiration; whatever that looks like for you and your group. On the fly advice is also helpful. When they do something out of sync with their character, call it out in real time. "So, you're telling me that, upon finding a family murdered in the home, your Lawful Good Paladin is going to loot the bodies and search through their valuables? Is that really what your character would do?" "Oh, so your rogue, who has a strength score of 10, is going to try to carry 3 suits of gilded armor and 4 jeweled greatswords through the rest of this dungeon full of monsters, then 100 miles back to town to sell? Fine, your movement speed is halved and you have disadvantage on all attacks and physical ability score checks." You don't want to turn everything into a punishment (I fell in to that trap for a while), but just call it out and make alternate suggestions.
