For me, one of the hardest things about adventure planning is that it is solitary work. Because everyone I know who CARES about D&D plays in my games, I can't share my tiny triumphs, get second opinions, or freely ask questions as I work. Sure, I can post on a forum/group, but that's somehow more "static" than the type of feedback I'm looking for.
I work in higher ed. and we do a lot of things collaboratively: brainstorming sessions, professional development, writing groups. I'm currently planning a write-in where students share space (either physical in our writing center or digitally through twitter) while writing, so they can work independently, but also be part of a group to stay motivated, question, etc. --For example, every time a student finishes writing a page, they put a tally by their name on the whiteboard. They also post goals & questions.
I was just thinking how amazing it would be to do something like this for DMs. Either a thread or hashtag that went "live" a couple hours once to twice a week so folks could enjoy an echo camber, amplifier of other DMs also tinkering with their creations.
Does anything like this exist? Is anyone else interested in something like this? If so, what sort of platform would you suggest?

I would be interested in something like this. I am just not sure how to approach the issue of platform. It would be fun to run simulations of the encounters if nothing else.

Simulations are a great idea!
I actually just finished testing a puzzle with a random component and while it gave me an idea of the number of die rolls involved, I still have no idea how clearly the solution/steps reveal themselves. Perfect for a DM "study" group. ;-)

I think that this is an absolutely amazing idea. I would think it is out there somewhere, but I didn't come across it at all. I think that a ton of social options are available for this. I would personally try a Google Hangout that only uses chat. I think it would be a very beneficial for all of those involved!

We could start a DMB chat room. Not sure which is the best provider, but a quick scan shows lots of free options. We could post times and dates on the forums, anyone can drop in to talk shop. Not sure how many people would actually show up, but it's probably the best venue for what you describe. Just to experiment, I started something over on chatzy.com (one of the first free options I found). Seems simple enough to administer. www.chatzy.com/55871693755615

Thanks for setting up the chat space, Nevvur! What if we used the chat in collaboration with a DMB forum thread for each session? The thread would announce the day/times and create a space for folks to post things for reference.
So, for example, if I wanted feedback on a puzzle, I could talk to folks in the chat, but post the puzzle itself in the forum so it's findable/readable without a bunch of scrolling.

Ya, that's basically what I was thinking. Although I think you can post images and other media in that chat room if you were so inclined.

If I can get the times to work out I'd drop in and talk shop! My schedule is always a bit rough so I can't promise anything.

Times are always tricky. I'll start a new thread--to which I can attach a poll--to get input on days and times once we sort a couple initial things.
Things to sort:
A clever name
Do you think we need some to moderate/host the sessions? (Folks here are courteous from what I've experienced, but you know....the internet.)
Are the folks who run DMB supportive of the idea?

DMBrainstorm? Dungeon Masters Banter? DMC - Dungeon Masters Council? DMB Moot - like ents and what not. I wouldn't think that it needs a moderator/host until it does, if that makes sense. If you structure it so that people, and their ideas, are given slots of time then I think it could go well. Person A gets 30 minutes, and then person B, so on and so forth. I personally am supportive, and have little doubt that DM Mitch, DM Chris, and dm_mainprize feel the same. It is a wonderful idea, and one that can accomplish something that the forums can't given the nature of how forums work.

Love this idea, collaboration is the best and the more minds you can put on a task the better solution you can find. Headed out to run some errands now, but when I return I will be hanging in the chat for the rest of the day!

I like Dungeon Master's Banter and DMB Moot, but the ents are pretty much my favorite fantasy-thing ever, so I'm bias on that one.
I apologize for the lack of follow-up on this thread this week. I work in higher-ed and it's MIDTERMS. LOL.

Creating a new thread now so I can add a poll for session times.
