I'm Farfumsane, which, incidently, is the name of the favorite character I ever had the pleasure of playing (CN Jester - lots of fun) anyways... Started playing when I was about 11, and did so for a good decade and change before lack of available gamers/DMs caused me to fall away. I primarily played AD&D 2e, but did play a bit in Shadowrun (1st ed), Robotech, TMNT (long ago) and a couple of others, but as I said, all this was ages ago. Over the last couple of years, some of the kids I teach asked me about it when they heard I used to play, and still have two boxes worth of books, and so I started up with them again. It is a challenge at times, but has been rather enjoyable. Though I admit to wishing I could just play on occasion too...but who knows what the years ahead will bring. My kids are almost old enough to start...maybe they'll DM for me when they're older. I look forward to seeing what else this site has to offer. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask.

What do you teach, Farfumsane? I'm English ed. currently working in a university writing center. I've seen some articles through NCTE about using RPGs in the classroom, so I'm curious about your experience. My own minions--ah, children, are 8 and 10, and we've just started playing. It's really been marvelous to see how fast they catch on.

My minions are currently 4, 6 and 8, so still a little on the tender side. my 8 yr old is almost to the point where I might think about it in a year or two. I'm planning on introducing her to the Munchkins in the next little while to get the idea in her head, I'm also hoping to get my hands on some fantasy style choose your own adventure books. All my kids are avid readers and I think that will go a long way to creating that adventuring itch, (You mean I'm no limited to only 3 choices? I can do whatever I want?) at least that's my hope.
Any suggestions on titles or authors on that front btw?
As for what I teach, I'm a Pastor, so I teach theology and the like. The students I mentioned are members of my youth Bible study. They thus far seem to enjoy, as they call it, geeking out. And though I don't encorporate it into my lessons, I do find it interesting for building rapport and friendships with people I would normally wouln't have much social contact with outside of coffee hour.

Or (my personal favorite) Proverbs 27:17. Welcome to the Block Party and best of luck in your adventures. Can't wait to hear some of the stories or ideas you have picked up throughout your years of playing.

Man, me and my group played TMNT just a few months ago. It was quite awesome I have to say. I ended up as a Cheetah Neurosurgeon, Dr. Brock Cheetah MD. It was a fun game though. We saved Maddona who was kidnapped by terrorists while on tour. She was kind of mean to be honest. (It was hilarious.) The late 80's, early 90's tech in that game is awesome. Anyways, welcome.

The old games nostalgic, true, but they're also a lot of fun in their simplicity. I remember (and if I'm being honest, miss tremendously) playing Shadowrun 1st Edition. I still have a ton of books, not as many as AD&D 2e, and I still go back to them from time to time and read them - they stimulate the imagination. I was just never good at GMing that one...I liked playing it, but I could never get the hang of being behind the screen.
