Before I put this game down 18 months ago, I sunk over 200 hours into it. Now I'm playing again, and I haven't even touched the DLC. I think this is my favorite video game of all time. If you're playing on the PC, the mod community has some amazing content to customize your experience! I'm a big fan of the SkyRe overhaul, though its not for everyone. The game has also served as inspiration for dungeon design and random wilderness encounters ( ..."You come across a collapsed tower..." ) One of my favorite moments was when I was hunting down words of power to get a complete collection of thu'ums. Just as I was approaching the dragon guardian, another random dragon entered the area. I ended fighting two of them at the same time, very epic! After I defeated them, I reloaded the most recent save to try and nab a cool screen shot of the fight. So for those who played, what was your favorite location? Skill/perk build? Race? Let's talk all things Skyrim!

I also love Skyrim. I don't have a lot of time to devote to it, so I haven't gotten beyond level 25 or so, but it is also my favorite video game. It's got almost everything I want in a video game. In fact, its the only game I currently play that isn't an isometric turn based RPG. I also play on a PC. I don't go too hog wild on the mods, my hardware is not very fancy and can't handle the HD graphics mods, which would be the main mods I'd implement.
I have all the DLC, but haven't gotten through any of it yet. Bought the Legendary version on sale through Steam a couple years ago.
As to builds, my D&D roots shine through. I have to create a back story for all my builds in Skyrim. My current favorite build is a Nord Hunter. He is hunter at heart, so he never passes up a chance to track and slay wildlife. He's not a fan of houses in towns, preferring to build his own (Hearthfire DLC). He uses a bow and sneaks a lot, but uses a Greataxe for melee fighting. He will only wear armor or clothing that he created himself using skins from animals he hunted. The only exception is the Wolf Armor he gained as a reward from the god Hircine (he is also a werewolf, and likes it that way). His behavior would make him Chaotic Neutral by D&D alignment standards. He has no problem with the Dark Brotherhood or the Thieves Guild. He hates the Empire, but balked at the oath of loyalty required to serve in the Stormcloaks.
I've considered adding in some weather, survival, and camping mods to make things more interesting, but the coolest mods of this type are not available through Steam Workshop. I play through Steam, and I've had trouble with the non-Steam Workshop mods. Nevvur, I may hit you up with some questions if you are a pretty confident modder, I'd like to get a few running from Nexus Mods.

I love Skyrim and ES games. I could write a ton, and probably will but am crunched for time ATM, I will say I love shouting enemies off cliffs. I love the shout that throws your voice and use it on the Falmer to great effect. But I think my favorite thing to do is just play as a mundane member of the Skyrim world. I get a house, and just live, mostly as a blacksmith. I love the smithing process and will spend hours hunting animals for skins, exploring the country for veins of ore and mining it, then returning to my home to forge out and improve some weapons only to take them to be sold the next morning.
Love Skyrim.

The only thing I ever found truly disappointing was the dragon riding in the Dragonborn DLC. Besides that....probably my favorite video game of all time.
DM Chris and I have plans to do an Elder Scrolls to D&D Lore series sometime in the future. Hopefully this news is exciting to you all.

That would be really cool. I've heard a little bit of the lore and even considered running a D&D campaign on Tamriel.

ES lore is pretty awesome especially when you move beyond the borders of Tamriel. I seem to recall reading about another continent that is entirely beast-folk like the khajit.

Ok, I haven't played Skyrim in months, but this thread has inspired me.
I am beginning a new play through (I use the term loosely; I've never actually been able to play THROUGH Skyrim). I did a little research, and using Nexus Mod Manager I have been able to download the mods I want from the Steam Workshop and from Nexus Mods and combine them.
I am sticking with my Nord Hunter build, but I'm restarting and adding in a bunch of really awesome mods. My only issue in Skyrim has been getting overwhelmed by choices. I get all caught up in moving the story forward and I rush through a bunch of content or skip a bunch of side quests. This playthrough, I'm adding survivalist mods to encourage me to slow down and actually play the game in the moment. There is so much game in Skyrim, if you get bogged down trying to fulfill certain goals, you miss cool exploration and side quest opportunities.
Here's what I'm using: -Frostfall: Adds survivalist weather dynamics to the game. Basically, cold and wet affect you as they may in real life; you get cold and weak and, if you don't take action to get warm, you may die. Fast travel is disabled on the Hardcore mode, so a huge chunk of the game becomes making it from place to place.
-Realistic Needs and Diseases: Makes eating and sleeping mandatory in the game; if you don't eat and rest, you get hungry and tired. You can even starve to death.
-Then I've added some equipment mods to complement these: Cloaks of Skyrim adds cloaks to the game, Winter is Coming adds more cloaks inspired by Game of Thrones costumes (so warm), Immersive Armors and Immersive Weapons add hundreds of new weapons and armor to loot lists and crafting lists. I've added this stuff to complement Frostfall. Frostfall calculates how cold and wet you are by what you are wearing.
-I've added a bunch of other mods to make the game more dynamic such as Climates of Tamriel (weather mod), Realistic Lighting Overhaul, Wearable Lanterns and Lanterns of Skyrim (adds "lightpost" style lanterns in appropriate places throughout Skyrim), and Bandoliers which adds more bags for increases carry capacity.
-Almost forgot a big one: Hunterborn makes hunting a more realistic and rewarding activity in game. You can choose what parts you harvest off an animal: trophies, meat, bones, or alchemical ingredients.
Anybody else familiar with any of these mods? Any suggestions?

The survivalist mods definitely add a new dimension to the game, just not a dimension I care to explore!
I highly recommend SkyUI. Best user interface mod out there. I don't know how I ever got along without it.
I'm currently playing a sword and board type, but Dual Wield Parrying mod is great if you play a weapon/weapon or weapon/spell build.
I didn't bother with any equipment mods, except for those included in the Skyrim Redone overhaul. The main thing I like about SkyRe is the changes to racial abilities, and the redesigned perk trees. Briefly, it makes all the skills useful in one way or another, and more sensible besides. You pretty much need to start a new character if you install it though. SkyRe also includes modifications to armor and weapon values, movement speeds, enemy AI, a bunch of new spells (and many old ones reworked), all aimed at making your decisions about approaching combat more meaningful. It also has a new lighting system, so dark areas are really dark... The lighting aspect is the closest thing to a survivalist mod I'll install, as it makes having a torch or candlelight spell (or nightvision) almost essential for dungeon delves. SkyRE is a very modular modification, so you can pick and choose which parts of the overhaul you actually want to use.
As an aside, I generally dislike the exploitability of ranged combat in Skyrim and how poorly AI reacts to it, so I avoid archery/magic. SkyRe's AI changes help, but not quite enough for me to invest much down those skill trees.
Well, I'm off to collect some more dragon priest masks! Picked up Otar last night, the only one I really need, but gotta have 'em all! Too bad those things are butt ugly. Good thing there's a helmet hide mod!

So, I installed and ran all those mods last night, and had some very wonky issues with some. The Lanterns of Skyrim mod caused a strange bug where the wagon started doing cartwheels. Literal cartwheels, through the air, twisting around, no pun intended!
I also officially dislike the Immersive Armor and Immersive Weapon mods. I felt they actually hurt my immersion, rather than enhancing it. Same with the Realistic Lighting Overhaul.
And when I activated Frostfall, I got stuck in place. Basically I wasted an hour messing around trying get everything to work and didn't actually get to play, but I'm confident I can find a good balance. I'll keep ya posted.
It appears we are on the opposite spectrum as far as builds. I don't go in for magic much, but I love being the sneaky sniper archer! The tops skill I tend to put perks into are Archery, Stealth, and whichever melee weapon I've got going for the build.
