Collaborative building time! I thought that taking the Paladin order DM-Nastics and tweaking it a little would work great for this week's DM-Nastics. This way we can built out a coven of witches. Some info form last time, so thanks again Nevvur for the help and it's ability to be used once again "All categories marked with an X may have multiple entries. You are encouraged to only submit one idea for these entries, but if you have more than one that you really want included, go for it! Also note that category 11 is the catch-all category for any juicy ideas unrepresented by any other category. Ex: 11) This coven of witches has a great enemy in the form of [Good Guy X]...This coven of witches is constantly eating [this animal]…etc."
1) Name : The Coven of Twelve
2) (Preferred) alignment of members - Evil for sure, but where else do they fall? Chaotic, and it is a constant power struggle with them wreaking havoc on the local area. Lawful, they have a strict code by which they adhere to but still commit heinous acts. Neutral, they get away with what they think they can but try not to overstep too many boundaries.
3) Patron Entity: Nom, "The Great Witch," Dayeimbe goddess of Death and Destiny
4) Mission - what goals do they have? is it simply to reap and sow chaos in this world, or do they lay claim to a certain piece of Dayeimbe and will do everything in their power to keep that control?
5) Symbol/heraldry -
6) Why did they form? The coven of 12 was once a druid circle charged with protecting the Eldrain Forrest, most notable for having a member of the royal family as the Circle Leader. The woods became troubled though, and though the druids communed with nature they could not find a source of the sickness. As the circle argued among themselves as to the potential source of this issue a Fey appered to them, explaining that the sickness in the forest was caused by the corruption of the master of the Woods Eldrain (known to humans as Mossbraid). The Fey knew how to cure Eldrain, but she would require the combined power of the circle to perform the rite.
Eager to heal their lands the circle agreed, and together with the fey sought out Mossbraid. The elder treant trusted those who had long tended to his woods and made no effort to prevent the ritual, as he too had noted the corruption on his domain. As the spell was completed the Fey revealed her true nature; it was Nom the Great which. The ritual petrified Mossbraid and gave control of the lands to Nom, the circle immediately understood what they had done and the revelation broke their minds. Nom took the despairing druids and reforged them as The coven of 12.
7) Where are they founded? Eldrain Forest - found in the northwestern portion of Dayeimbe near the lakes in that area. They have built their home into the dead body of Mossbraid so that they are constantly close to death to hopefully please Nom. They are also at the source of the poison that they have become famous for because of this. The Eldrain Forest appears to be in good health because of the powers the witches employ through deception, illusion, and non detection. After Mossbraid was petrified Nom used her powers to assist in making the forest healthy again to hide the coven and make people feel comfortable when entering into the forest. She also helped to lay false paths that lead people further into the forest to the witches.
8x) Notable hexes, curses, spells -
8a) Beguiling Presence: like their patron, the witches of Nom use trickery and deception to achieve their ends. Part of their repertoire is the ability to assume not only the appearance of other humanoids, but also to mask their corrupt natures and confound divination magic that might reveal it. In fact, legend has it they used this ability to betray Mossbraid, posing as benevolent woodland fey and luring him into their trap. (effectively, Alter Self and Nondetection wrapped into one spell)
9x) Notable figures in the coven -
9a) One of the daughters of the King and Queen of the land is a member, the King and Queen are ashamed of their daughter's affiliation with the Coven but can't bring them self to have her killed, as such they go out of their way to keep it a secret, even lending them resources and sending knights to fetch things for them for the promise that their secret wont get out.
10x) Historic/Infamous achievements
10a) The Coven of the 12 is most widely known for having cursed and petrified the great Elder Treant Mossbraid. After turning his flesh to stone through an unknown necrotic ceremony, the group harvested his now poisonous sap. This black tarry ichor is now quite rare, and is extremely powerful as a toxin used in potions, poisons, and applied to weapons. The rumor is that if the Mossbraid Sap even touches your skin, your entire limb will rot and fall off in a matter of minutes.
11X) Supplemental information: anything you want to contribute that doesn't have an entry above.
That's that. I don't have anything to kick it off myself, but I think I planted enough seeds in the description to get this one off the ground!
