My wife and I are old fans of Tolkien so we have a perspective that's a bit different than I suspect most will be. We enjoyed the first set of movies, although they really blue Arwen's role out of proportion to insert a romance plot where there hadn't been one. We couldn't really say the same for the Hobbit trilogy though... They wound up reusing most of the music and the one bit of really good music (the Dwarf's "Over the Mountains" song) was just a few snippets of the whole thing. Neither of us minded that they invented Tariel, it made sense that they would, but a dwarf/elf romance is such anathema to anything Tolkien ever wrote. He went on for some length at the deep animosity between dwarves and elves but more than that he was very much against cross-species relationships. There are three in the 80,000 year history chronicled in the Silmarillion and they're all between a human male and elven female (Beren & Luthien, Tuor & Idril, and Aragorn & Arwen). Each pairing (particularly Beren & Luthien) was the focus of a considerable amount of plot and world changing events. Quite notably, none of them are thrown in due to some strange notion that blockbuster productions require a romance plot regardless of whether it makes sense.
We'd seen every Middle-Earth movie on opening night but we still haven't seen the third Hobbit movie. We can tolerate a fair bit but such a blatant disregard for the source for so little spoils the whole thing. Pity.

Yes, that was my only beef. But, actually, as far as Arwen/Aragorn goes there there is a whole slew of extra material at the back of Return of the King. The material really strengthens the two's romantic story, but I thought it was unnecessary for the movie. I am mainly heartbroken over Thranduil. You can change a little character, I get that. But don't turn a good honest guy into that much of a jerk.

There may be something I'm missing from the third movie, but in the books it's hard to say that Thranduil's a "good & honest" guy. He's a Noldor, true, and a prince from way back in the days of Doriath, but the Dude's kind of a dick.

I guess it would be hard for some how has read all the books... Me I have only seen the cartoon movies and the movies. So i am going in partially blind. This is probably why I do like them and enjoy them very much.
I am also used to way things get changed. Captain America First Avenger is only of my favorite movie. I love Captain America. I know Bucky didnt die like that and Zemo was the last person CA fought before he froze but things changed and i still liked it.
I can see your guys point of view but I was still very entertained by all 3 Hobbit movies.

Heh, don't mind me just a cranky nerd. Seriously though, I love The Hobbit, I actually enjoy the movies better (there. I said it) then the books, because of all the extra information stuffed into it. Even Thranduil is portrayed correctly in view of the few scenes he appears in the Hobbit (though leaving in the middle of a battle is not characteristically Elven). All the extra tidbits in the film are amazing and I am about to watch the extended edition!!! The only real downside was the amount of screen time that Beorn got...

I rather enjoyed both the Avengers movies. Marvel has set the bar HIGH and I hope they continue to meet the same standard. Especially with upcoming movies like Deadpool, Guardians of the Galaxy 2, the X-men Apocalypse movie. I cannot wait for Deadpool. Him and Wolverine have always been my favorite characters from the Marvel universe.
