Hi everybody, it's great to finally join the block party after hearing it for the last month or so.
Bio: I am 21 years young from Kansas, going to K-State for English and Theatre, and an avid videogame player. I started playing RPGs summer before my Freshman year of college, so about 3.5 years ago. My current DM had run a campaign of Marvel Heroic RPG and killed everyone in a boss fight except my best friend (who wasn't present) and then two team members had life things come up so I was brought into the ranks of super heroism. After finishing two story-lines of Marvel we played our first campaign of D&D and it was amazing, despite it being 4e. In February of this year we started playing 5e and it's been amazing; since starting I've had a character get killed by his best friend's AoE spell combined with his nephew's axe, one was eaten by a Hydra while at sea, and one was chopped in half, revived, then impaled through the heart I'm kinda the crit-failure of my group.I've also played the 4e-esque Star Wars game, The Strange, and Numenara but most of those were for about a month or less.
As for GMing experience literally after playing my first game of Marvel I knew one of my really good friends would absolutely love the game so I found a short session online and ran it for him, ran that for nearly a year. In the middle I ran another game for my new college friends on the same timeline but in a different city, that one was about a semester. Then having finished up my first 4e game as a player I combined my college group with my friend from home for a 4e game that ran for nearly 7 months, however the game finished early. Took a big break from GMing, but I met a group of huge nerds at work who had never played and decided the simplicity of 5e was the perfect opportunity to get them into the realm of D&D. In prepping for the campaign I went looking for a podcast about DMing to listen too while compiling ideas and at work, found this little gem, listened to all of the episodes over August and September, and I'm now proud to say that I'm a Blockhead! Gotta say for my first ever choice for a podcast it was a great one.
P.S. Homebrewing and original creations is kinda one of my new favorite things, so don't be surprised if you suddenly see a lot of kittens, wizards, and orcs on those threads in the near future.
