Greetings everybody, this is my first time on a forum so I hope I do it right. Started up my second campaign ever at the beginning of August, first in 5e, and one of my players really had his heart set on playing an actual cat burglar. So myself and one of my dm friends used it as an excuse to homebrew a Hengeyokai race, and I thought I'd put it on here so you all can use it if you like. Also to preface the Fox subrace (a lot of people question it) my dm friend and I play a ton of Pokemon and we were really inspired by Vulpix and Ninetails for the Hengeyokai of our worlds, so that's why they have innate spellcasting. Also feel free to comment on how you guys think we could improve it. Hengeyokai_Homebrew.pdf (21.33 KB)) drive.google.com/file/d/0B981z0evkQV1M2IySjd3Z2FrUjQ/view

Welcome to the forums ShadowKittenWizard! Glad to have you join us! Also, I love that you created a race so that your player could get enjoyment from it, and that it was inspired by pokemon!!!

Totally unrelated, but sort of related...Pokemon brought this idea up...but what about a race that at specific levels evolves what it looks like...

The idea that came to mind immediately was the Tengu race in Pathfinder where you can take race specific feats that give more bird like abilities, but I love the idea as well. Could be gradual mechanically, but a stark physical change at certain leveling points. Love the Hengeyokai race, and especially the sub races. Is there a more eastern feel to the campaign as a whole, or just these races?

Now I've got this idea in my head for a Magikarp-like god who is famous for appearing to people of great destiny as a really terrible helper and if they prove worthy and put their trust in him he changes form and abilities, until he reveals his final form when the adventurers need it most. Or you know, a multi-stage boss fight (Frieza) could be really sweet too. joatmoniac No he's the only hengeyokai in my campaign, however he is vaguely foreign and mysterious so as I build my world out I could easily put in a country made up mostly of hengeyokai and give it an eastern inspirational flavor.
